Hi all,

Following on from my previous post about my visit to the local scratch and wash. Is using a jet wash essential to keep a car in good nick?

I live in a flat so my wash DIY routine consists of buckets of Optimum No Rinse. I can't spray down the underside of the car or under the arches as I don't have access to a tap. How about if I just use a long handle brush for the arches and under the sills?

If snow foaming yes it is. But on a weekly wash a standard hosepipe is more than adequate. Just be careful and use the jetwash at 45 degrees , never at 90 degrees. use it to lift of any dirt, not blast it onto your paintwork.

A hose with a nozzle on the end is perfectly fine for vehicles that are only lightly soiled, a jet wash really helps when the car is absolutely filthy, as this can help remove alot of the muck before even touching it.

Just make sure you wash the under side of the sills and arches with a different wash mitt to you bodywork :-)

A jet wash is very helpful in removing as much dirt with out physically touching the paint work, and thus reducing the amount of dirt that can get dragged about the paint work when contact washing.

Another way - just wait till it rains. Brolly in one hand, washmitt in the other

Be careful how near you get the nozzle of the jet to the bodywork.
They are really very good at finding stonechipped lacquer on bonnets & then removing large chunks of the surrounding lacquer.............
Good for business though!

^^ Only if you use over powered jet washers intended for drive way or drain cleaning, a 100-120 bar machine is fine, and as with every thing you need to use some common sense wink Dont blasting it full beans from a millimeter away from your paint wink
