I have successfully split the HDMI output from my AV receiver to go to both TV and projector. However, like an idiot I damaged the HDMI cable I had run to the projector. The replacement cable (from a different supplier) when plugged into the splitter shuts off any signal to both the TV and projector. What's likely to be the difference between the two cables that has caused this? It's very frustrating!

How did you damage the cable? It wasnt the end that plugs into the splitter was it? Im thinking possible damage to the splitter. It could also be a defective new cable.

did you get pictures simultaneously on PJ and TV?

Would be surprised if a new cable is faulty scratchchin

I was getting picture simultaneously on a bench test of the first cable, all working as expected. I ran the cable through the wall and floorboards and managed to snag it so that one was binned. On bench testing cable number 2 it only sends a picture directly from the source, when plugged into the splitter I get no image on either TV or Projector.

Slight hijack but anyone come up with a decent product for allowing two HDMI sources to use one display yet? (ie my freesat box and a DVD player to my projector - DVI input on the projector and a long cable with a HDMI plug t'other end) Don't really want to get into switch boxes if there's a simple adapter or Y cable that does the job...

Despite what people who know no better will tell you, all HDMI cables are not created equally.

The splitter also works from each output or with the new cable on it's own. It only becomes a problem when the new cable is plugged into the splitter whilst something else is also.

I've ordered a third cable from the original supplier to hopefully remedy this but it would be nice to understand what's causing it.

Looks like you just have a HDMI compatibility issue, basically everything works fine on its own but plugged in together they dont, another cable of the same manufacture of the 1st would be a good idea.

As for Y splitting HDMI, it dont work like that, you need a box wink

I would agree. Although you could buy a perfectly adequate one for under £20.

Depends on what you're putting down it, length of the cable, quality of the electronics at source and display etc etc etc.

An interesting read...
http://www.audioholics.com/education/cables/long-h...

notice the 6ft $10 cable passing all the tests, whilst a 12m $1400 cable failed four out of the five!

I'll maintain that you can buy a perfectly adequate hdmi cable for under £20.

the bluejeans one's (for example) are cheap but work perfectly well.

2m /= 12m

Hence why I said length is a consideration...

I dont disagree. My point is the extortionate price of hdmi cables is a complete rip off.

My question is how did you split the output in the first place? I have a Plasma and Projector, and only ever have one of them on at once, yet all the switch boxes I could find were £200+
There are loads of 2 into 1, but not many 1 into 2.

I used a simple 1 -> 2 splitter off eBay fully expecting it to be rubbish and to my surprise it worked with no noticable difference in picture. The replacement cable hasn't landed yet - I'm hoping to avoid buying a switch box until I decide how many rooms/tv's I want to run from the main hub!
