Joking aside, if you leave your trailer outside in a location where it's accessible, you may want to invest in a hitch lock, possibly an anchor of some sort and at least 2 wheel clamps. Even if they are cheap, the detterant aspect of them is very strong. Search any online trailer spares/caravan company for security products.

Any markings on the trailer also act as a deterant. Probably worth leaving a box trailer empty of anything valuable just in case....

I use a wheel clamp that I got for about £100 from Halfrauds. No idea how technically good it is though. Plus a hitch lock with a decent padlock on it. Plus the trailer is kept behind a locked gate. Plus I leave a car parked in front of the gate. Seems to work OK.

I have one of these, very good security rating

http://www.towsure.com/product/13026-Nemesis_Wheel... we paid around £85, so can be had cheaper.

Plus a triple lock hitch, blocked on the drive by another vehicle and a security post.

Ground anchors are a good idea if not blocked in as I believe some are stolen by HIAB lifting them on to a flat bed lory (still with wheelclamp attached)

Also don't leave anything on it. The number of race car stolen threads that appear is quite depressing when they're almost certainly stolen for the trailer they're left on.

Obviously it's not the travelling comunity that would be stealing it. There are groups of theives that follow them round you know!!!!

Concreted in shackles and a large chain is always a good idea if it's always in the same place.

I lost mine a while ago. The pikeys will simply drive their 7.5 tonne lorry near it, attach a big chain of their own and pull it out . . . breaking whatever security you have.

The only way to have a chance is to have something like a pair of Almax 19mm chains attached to a pair of concreted in ground anchors, deep in the drive, so they will find it difficult to wrench it away.

Things like hitch locks, wheel clamps etc are useless as they just attach a chain to it and pull it away, wheel clamp and all skidding along the ground, to be dealt with later.

They are not like us . . . you can't protect it by thinking how you would steal it . . . think how the thief would think.
