I've been given two standby return tickets to anywhere on Virgin Atlantic for my girlfriend and I to travel, but they must be used by the end of December (both legs of trip).

We're currently saving for a house and are busy at work, so we can't afford 3 weeks in Sydney both in terms of time and money and NYE in NYC won't work because we have to return before the 31st.

I'd like to go to Cape Town for a week and it looks like you can get reasonable hotels there for £70 per room per night, but the other half doesn't want a city break (we both work in the City and she's pushed to get the time off in any case).

So, what we're after is either a B&B or hotel with grounds near or on the coast close to Cape Town but not in it.

It's a long shot, but can anyone suggest anywhere?

Thanks in advance. smile

I can't recommend specific B&Bs but I'd suggest that you stay somewhere out of the city - Constantia is a great area as it's midway between Town and the winelands. Also look at Bantry Bay and along the coast, but you'll struggle to get a room near the beaches (and possibly everywhere TBH).

Camps bay is one of the closet local town's only 5 mins drive overlooked by the table, Victoria Harbour is nice as well if a bit noisy and touristy, trip advisor and the portfolio collection are good places to have a look.

good luck getting reserve seats to cape town - i've flown there probably half a dozen times and have never seen an empty seat. In fact most times I've been offered money to go the next day, but thats a different matter!

This place is great, but maybe too far out for what you want - it's about 1h15 drive from the city

Which class do you fly? These are premium economy tickets with Virgin.

economy most of the time, but if they are paying people to fly later then you can be sure all the classes are full! However there are probably less people flying these days so I am sure you will get something - how far in advance can you "book" the tickets and be sure you're flying?

We liked Simonstown, not far from CT. Very expat if you like that sort of thing.
I imagine there would be a whole variety of accommodation options.
This for instance R750, so £60.

Try Gary at Mooring House Lodge. http://www.accommodationsomersetwest.com/todo.html

Based in Somerset West, in the wine lands. Very central, about 20 minutes from CT, 10 minutes from Stellenbosch, and 5 minutes from Strand. Great for good food and drinks at the various wine estates.

Gary really looks after his guests and will make sure you have a great time.
