Farnborough Well mystery/event

A few years ago I read an old newspaper report (on t'internet) of something that happened in Farnborough, Hampshire around the 1890's to 1920's. An old well was unearthed, and it was found to have been capped off with a large slab of stone and then covered with a mound of earth. As soon as the workmen removed the heavy stone cover all the dogs within a 5 mile radius start barking and going berserk.

I'm researching a book and I cannot find it now, despite various search strings. Does anyone on here know anything about this? or perhaps someone more skilled than I at Google-ing could help?
