At my 10k service last week it was pointed out that my rear tyres would need replacing soon :-(

I've been looking around via the web to see what around and at what cost:

I've seen that www.hotukdeals.com/item/531584/8-off-at-mytyres-8-year-anniversary are presently offering a deal. So thought I'd start there.

They offer tyres with a wide range of prices. E.g.

The direct replacement of what I have now are Bridgestone Potenza RE 050 A at £239 (without discount)
They have Good year EAGLE F1 GS-D3 (which I've been pleased with on a previous car) at £175
and Nankang NS-2 (Tyretest.com rate these highly) at £118 they say these have rim protection too - maybe too late for me, I could buy two set for the cost of the Brigestones's!
Quite a few others too, but don't want to fill this post with their catalogue.

What are people's thoughts and experiences?

Thank for your help, Steve

I ran the NS2's on my GTS. I would be tempted to use them again. Plenty of brand snobbery when driving around, but they did the trick and didnt see any better or worse in day to day driving than anything else.
If you look at the 285x30 NS2's they are £107 with the discount. Will give you a little more width on on the rear for no extra cost.
Im running a pair of Conti-2's I got off ebay for £85 on the rear at present.

I'm currently running Kumho ecsta sports on the back of mine. Dealer fitted before i bought it.

So far I've been impressed, seem to have good grip in both wet & dry. They also seem to be wearing quite well an all.

Will 285's be clear of bodywork when car goes over speed bumps etc?

Check out Autocars test of cheap tyres, including Nankang, here. there is a linky at the bottom of the page to the pdf of the full test.

Yep, no problems on mine. The close bit is the inside of the tire against the body. But there is about 1cm space. Mysty runs 295's on his seemingly without issue. Though with the ones I have and their rim protectors its close enough with the 285.
