use rain-x on all my cars on side and rear windows, don't use it on the windscreen though as it can get a bit patchy when you do have to use your wipers. Reliably informed the local traffic cops use it on all their vehicles, windscreens and all. Certainly does a good job of shifting the water when you're moving.
Auto Express did a test on these last year

and found Comma ProVision Rain Clear Gel to be the best, followed by Halfrauds and then Turtle Wax.
The way I avoided the Rain X Brake donation was to get some PIAA silicone wipers

You clean your screen first, then wipe it with their wipe, then run the wipers for about 5 mins on a dry screen. As the blade is dragged across the screen the silicone wears forming a silicone layer which does a great job of beeding water and causing it to stream off like Rain X. The advantage is that everytime you use your wipers the layer is topped up so you don't have to keep reapplying stuff. I've been using them for a couple of months now and hardly ever use the wipers. At 40mph it starts to stream, and at 70mph you can even pass trucks with all the spray and not need them.

I have been using Rain-X for years on all my cars. Just can be a pain to rub it off enough (fab using a machine polisher), i.e. goes a litte patchy for couple of days and then it's great.
Very good product, especially good in the side and rear windows and helps on frosty mornings to move the frost.
Cheers
