Garmin NUVI locked up - help

Hi all, has anyone had a problem with thier Garmin NUVI 770 locking up ?

Tried to use mine last week in the US and its going through the normal "loading maps" message, then the warning regarding use while driving bla bla but then goes to a "Map Update Notice".
When I press the "OK" field it doesnt acknowledge and stays on that screen.
Plugged into my laptop and it doesnt make any difference. Switched off a thousand times, left it to go flat and still the same ?
Garmin told me to try a different USB port on my laptop ?!?!?
Is there a way to reset or something ?

According to page 44 of your manual:

Resetting the nüvi

If the nüvi screen stops functioning, turn the nüvi off and on again. If this does not help, slide the Power key to the left and hold for 8 seconds. Turn the nüvi back on. The nüvi should operate normally.

I'm surprised that Garmin didn't suggest that first before giving you that spiel about different USB ports on your laptop though.

Yes, thats why I came on Pistonheads to ask. Garmin advice seemed realy light weight.
