david will no doubt confirm the reasons why. As i understand it, the main reasons are that the club cant afford it and cant get people to man the stands!! We need to get cars there by thursday at latest and have the cars out on sunday night? It wold have been great to have a club stand there, but one sealed off to the public as we all know the problems of how stupid and damaging some people can be who spoil it for the rest.
Last year there was an anniversary there on the Classic and Sports car stand, the guy left the car open for a minute and people were jumping in it!!I think he was so exhausted he couldnt chase them. Felt sorry for the guy
So guys do we want a stand there for next year?? If so is anyone going to put themselves forward to man the stand? Is it going to be a closed stand?
I will put myself forward for being there for a couple of days and bringing a car!
We will need at least 6 people a day for three days and 4 cars and a commitment form the club to fund if there is actual support!
I expect to be shouted at now by David!!!

There was a LCUK stand at the London one, a few people on here including myself were helping on it. They'd probably be able to answer your question properly, but from what I would guess it was the difficulty organising it and having enough people to staff both.
Edit after Paul's post:
I was asked to man the stand (I'm an enthusiast rather than owner) so that would confirm the shortage of people helping. The stand was open at first, but ended up being roped off due to the number of people. A lot seemed to enjoy breifly touching the cars so you went over to tell them not to, but by the time you were able to tell them they had stopped. There was a few who were happy to lean on the cars, who we told not to. Also quite a number of parents were really decent and told the kids to move away/ ask first, so they're not all bad.

To expand on Ian's succinct summary of the situation regarding Shows, everyone needs to understand the facts. There are many shows during the year. Aside from the obvious PR benefit to the marque and the obvious enjoyment of the public who attend and admire our machinery (which is what makes most of us tick, sharing our passion) the material benefits to the Club are paltry. The costs are prohibitive in most cases and for a tiny Club such as ours the return cannot be justified. The helpers have to give up several days of their lives and multiply this by several helpers, add the cost of the stand, accommodation, subsistence etc and you see that it simply cannot be afforded without Dealer, Factory or Sponsor support. Some sponsors from previous events still owe the Club money. The worst example is probably Goodwood FoS which cost the Club almost £8k last time we did it - a ridiculous expense to provide what was essentially an exhibit for Lord March to sell to the punters. I am very anti having to pay to be an exhibit! Any bright ideas on making these events pay or obtaining funds to support them will always be welcome.

There certionaly was, it's my neighbours Countach. To be fare he really doesn't mind people jumping in and out of his car. If it were mine, I would be having kittens! We bought it up on the Friday and I spend hours cleaning it. I was there on the Sunday and bought it back home when it finished.
Poor ole Roger wasn't felling that well last year, he's still not 100% now but is on the mend.
I dont know what the NEC charge for the stand, but will trya nd find out. The maser club was there and they must be similair to us in size?
I dont mean to sound arrogant, but The classic marques are the ones that can be headlined and drw crowds. I wonder if the NEC would take a view on providing free space for them?
It would have to be a closed stand or invite small numbers on as Ferrari do although they had problems this year. a bunch of Indian/ pakistani louts came on and were cheeky and racially abusive to the staff and public! i was there at the time. It annoyed me, but the staff just got them off the stand. i would have had them arrested at least!
I will check with Ferrari and maser clubs and see, bt if anyone knows the costs etc please post

Of course this is opposed to the white burberry cladded Chavs that do the same at countless other car shows??Edited by ferrari spider on Thursday 19th November 10:41
I Helped out on the LCUK stand at the london show aswell.
In the morning when it wasnt fully ropped off you had people just climbing over the ropes to take photos, people leaning on the cars, brushing down the side of them with hands (didnt help with ice lollies being sold inside the venue) so had to keep them away from touching them. You could tell who was going to do things like this by the way thery were acting. Many people who came over were well behaved and respected that it was someones car so didnt touch them.
Once it was ropped off completly the were no problems, people asked about the cars, if they could come in and get a picture of the interior/ with the car... was alot better from that point. Would happily help out again.

The Classic show this year was heaving and theres no way I'd have wanted even my lowly TVR left on an open stand let alone a hundred ks worth of Lambo. The Ferrari & Bugatti stands were well roped off but people were still leaning over ropes to get to them.
Far too many people and even walking anywhere was a mission, people bumping and jostling - being pushed into cars and stands! It is nice to show the cars off but it's nicer to have some respect from the paying public for other peoples possessions.
I did the Dream rides instead as it was a way of showing the cars without the danger of pawprints, scratches or bits being nicked. Lambo wise on the Saturday there was a red Miura SV running and Sunday a blue Gallardo so Lamborghini weren't totally unrepresented over the weekend - albeit not in an official way.

Thanks for those - there were loads of lads with Cameras stood around the entrance and the Dream Rides route so no doubt there'll be other pics about. The Miura was stunning and the owner was also a really nice chap, said it used to be lime green before the current red.
Did you also see the original Ford GT40 in the gulf racing colours?

To support the comments the easiest way to have a pressence at the NEC is to join the Sporting Bears Dream Rides, I am sure Lynn with the Gallardo on Sunday enjoyed the day and will no doubt be talking to LCUK members about her first time experience and I am sorry I didn't have time to chat to the Muira owner or indeed yourself Tony. Sporting Bears hold events all over the UK and offer static, tours and Dream Rides to raise money for Childrens Charities in the UK, check out www.sportingbears.org.uk for 2010 events.Far too many people and even walking anywhere was a mission, people bumping and jostling - being pushed into cars and stands! For those that attend the Gaydon Supercar Sunday you will have seen the Bears cars in action including the fabuolous Jaguar XJ220 (but no Lambos) that also helped at Cholmondeley Pageant of Power and NEC, so for all Lambo owners we offer a fun way to show off your cars and raise money for Charity. We have had Lambos at all our Dream Rides events and the public donate highly for a chance to passenger an iconic car, so see you all in 2010 around the UK.
