where to stay in oxford

All, after a bit of advise.

Wife and I are planning to get away for a city break in Oxford this weekend but haven't a clue where to stay, Would ideally be in the city (walking distance) and hotel based.

Has anyone got any suggestions where to stay. Ideal criteria is design style hotel but budget is only circa £150

any help/suggestions appreciated

Yep agreed, stay there it's ace. Food is good too and right in the centre.

http://www.oldbank-hotel.co.uk/ is fab and excellent location. Posted rates are above your budget, but we have had bargain rates last minute. So may be worth a call.

I stayed at the McDonald 'Randolph' Hotel (opposite the Ashmolean Museum, worth a visit!) and it was excellent!!

Very close to town centre, high street etc.. Without being too close if you know what I mean.

Unfortunately have no idea of price as it was a Birthday present from the GF.

Most importantly, it has on site underground car parking!!

I stayed in the Premier Inn on the outskirts near Cowley and it was crap.

Well actually it was OK, but we spent more on taxis getting in and out than we saved by not getting a proper hotel in town.

For the budget your better off with a B&B / Guest house. There are loads on the London rd in Headington that have parking and its on a bus route or 1.5 mile walk into the centre. Then spend what you save on meals etc

They do a Sunday night deal which is worth looking at if you have some flex on your itinerary.

The Mal is a very good spot if you want central. It's like being in an episode of "Bad Girls"
Try the "House of Correction" or "The Govenors Room" if you can. Parking can be an issue, so book it with your reservation.

Outside by 20 minutes is the Crazy Bear and Ragged Staff at Stadhampton.

As previously stated, The Old Bank is good.
