If you want a D300s -
Discussion
So neither item is selling strongly then?! Don't see many D300's' - not worth the premium over the D300 and the 300 is still showing in Calumets top seller list and the price is holding up as opposed to the dropping D300s. As for the SB-900 - never seen anyone with one. However, if Nikon want to give me one to go with my recently purchased 300s that would be nice... As that's highly unlikely I'll continue to bid for used SB-600's on ebay unless anyone has one or two for sale

Nice piece of kit - seen several pros extolling their virtues (the SB, not the 'tog!) - especially in the fact that all the controls are on the buttons, and not deep in menus. I currently use two SB-800 and I HATE the constant fight to get them to do what I want them to, when and if I can find the right menu options (which is almost every time I pick them up!)944gav said:
That sounds like a very tempting offer. From a quick Google it appears that you have to have personally received an e-mail with the offer. I think I am registered as I usually get e-mails from Nikon so fingers crossed one turns up soon
It was indeed a direct e-mail with a code number. However Nikon confuse the issue by having two levels of registration/clubdom etc - 'Nikon Professional User' which is the easier to get into, and 'Nikon Professional Services' which is more demanding. I'm with both but use the NPU logo as it suits the design better!I considered an SB900 to go with the SB800 but decided against it as (1) it wasn't significantly more powerful (2) it was much bulkier (3) there were reports about it overheating due to the very short recharge time.
The SB900 really is very, very good (if you need that sort of thing). Vastly better than the SB800 that kept overheating on me, or the SB600 that I found a bit underpowered.
As for going for a D300s over the previous D300, I don't see the point. I would never use the video function and if I wanted something of that size, would go for the D700.
