Dear all,
I have recently moved down to the Ealing neck of the woods and i was wondering if anyone could suggest some good driving roads out to the north or the west of London... I mean getting outside the M25 and finding some nice sweeping curves or tite and twisties. dont really mind how far out i have to go. Just curious

A41 m25 to aylesbury is a 25 mile dual carriageway with hills, sweeping bends, long straights.I have recently moved down to the Ealing neck of the woods and i was wondering if anyone could suggest some good driving roads out to the north or the west of London... Its alleged you can do a run one way and then max out on the way back in the knowledge that you have already recce'd it.....
The further out the better it gets. I don't know where you are, but you mentioned North London, so I'd say grab a map or sat nav and follow the below as a guide...
M25 to J24, off through Potters Bar and take the B158 through Essendon to Hertford
At Hertford, hop onto the A414 east for a second and then take the B180 from Stansted Abbotts to Widford. Then the B1004 to Bishops Stortford (make sure you turn right coming out of Much Hadham to follow the B1004 - that's the good bit). If you're still going, try and get onto the B1051, which takes you from Bishops Stortford towards Thaxted and off into the numerous twisty lanes of Essex.
Or, hop on the A1 to Welwyn. B656 to Hitchin. B655 to Barton Le Clay. Next, cut across to the A507, heading east. The first bit is a bit boring (barring the roundabouts) but after Baldock it becomes great. If you're feeling adventurous and have a couple of hours to spare you can then follow this into Essex and pick up the far end of the above as one big loop. Apparently.

Rickmansworth Road/ Ducks Hill Road/ A412
I love these roads, and not too far from West London.
Be very careful on the section of Ducks Hill going towards Ruislip after you have left Northwood. There is a downhill straight just after Holland and Holland that looks very inviting but has a couple of hidden dips and two recent deaths from bad accidents.I love these roads, and not too far from West London.
Very dicey.

B467 ickenham to hareford.
hareford?harefield!
b467 is swakeleys road, running from ickenham to park street uxbridge a mainly 30mph residential road with a short dual carriageway, did you mean harvil, breakspearsouth and north or ducks hill road which spur off this? - they are all good in their own way.
Harvill is the one with the hidden dips, breakspear is a good twisty road, and ducks hill is a fairly boring /busy A road going from ruislip to mount vernon

Also should add, whilst Harvil Road can be a fun drive, there have been on average 2 deaths a year for the past 5 on the stretch from Harefield to Ickenham. Even reducing the speed limit down to 50 has not stopped people dying.
I've written to various authorities asking for a speed camera (my father lives just off Harvil Road so I know the stretch very well) and nothing. Yet they found time to install a camera on 3 lane A40 at Northolt just after the speed limit changes from 70 to 50.

wait wait wait, you ASKED for a speed camera?I've written to various authorities asking for a speed camera (my father lives just off Harvil Road so I know the stretch very well) and nothing. But nothing has happened and as I pointed out, they managed to install a new speed camera on the A40 in the time people have been dying on a stretch of road less than 5 miles from the new A40 camera.
Did I actually want a speed camera? No. Did I do it to prove once and for all that cameras are only about making money? Oh yes.
Harvil road is awesome, a speed camera wouldnt improve things anyway
