A8 MMI screen juddering

The MMI screen on my 2005 A8 has developed an annoying habit; on Monday it stopped folding down all the way when I got out of the car.

By Tuesday however the problem was with it rising as I start the car. It gets near the top and then judders violently for about 3 seconds at it tries to reach its full height.

I've been quoted £400 to fix it - new bracket plus labour. Anynoe seen anything similar

Mine did exactly the same a few months ago. Luckily it was fixed under warranty.

The problem is that it very quickly stops working and when the screen does not come up at all you can't do anything. I believe it is the ratchet mechanism that wears, probably plastic gears.
