Chaps, I've just put new shocks on my 944 lux and it's gone a bit vibey at 70mph. Either I've knocked out the camber a touch (I did mark up the eccentric nuts and put them back in the same place and I can't see how the camber being off would cause vibes) or I'm now noticing slight play in the bushes/balljoints in the wishbones that was already there.

So, I want to put new balljoints on and new bushes. I've found the bits to do the jobs...

www.design911.co.uk/index.htm
(go to steering & susp and then front 944 suspension - this is a blow up picture of the bits in place... www.design911.co.uk/steering_front944.htm

...but I have 2 questions.

Firstly, that's a of a lot of money for the bits to do both sides - 200 quid for a handful of bushes and a couple of balljoints - is that right or is there somewhere else I should shop.

Secondly, those bushes are in two parts which will press in from either side I guess. Would I need a press for these type of bushes in the same way as I'd need one for a one piece bush?

Thanks,

Mark

from memory of doing mine you will need the use of a press if doing the wishbone busches.

It is probably also worth doing the front anti roll bar ones at the same time, given you have to take it off anyway to get at the others.

I got all mine from poschapart total cost was sub 100 notes

By the way, I forgot to mention that my wishbones are steel.

The steel ones are the original wishbones - quick bit of advice these wishbones are available for around 25 notes a peice from the likes of porschapart if you are doing the busches you might aswell back some new wishbones on aswell unless the ones you have are already in tip top condition

Just to follow this up. The bushes andballjoints came to 120 quid delivered from porsche apart. Did the job in a day (well an hour to do tomorrow because of a sheered anti-roll bar bracket bolt). I did the job without a hydraulic press in the end and it was much easier than I anticipated. If anyone wants to do the job themselves then drop me a mail and I'll fill you in with the details.

Regards,

Mark

Only later alloy wishbones need the ball joints pressed in, steel ones have bolt on ball joint units.

Thanks for pointing me towards porsche apart, never occured to me to try them for new bits but they were *extremely* helpful and would recommend them to anyone.

Mark
