Hello!

I've had my 156 2.0TS for nearly 3 years now and I'm hankering for something a bit more special.I'm so impressed with the car that I can't see any other car that I would enjoy as much except the glorious GTA!
Now they mostly seem to be around the 9K mark and quite few and far between so I'm wondering if there are any dealers around that have a good stock and if people think they are worth that kind of money. Tips on what to look out for would be useful.

Thank you.

Ouch 9K, I sold my GTA SW for 7.5k 18 months back.

Haven't looked recently but that sounds a bit steep to me.

Great car though.

I paid less than £7k for my GTA sportwagon 6 months ago at 57k miles, privately mind.
That was after 3 other 156 Sportwagons 2X 2ltrs and one ahem, diesel.
Do it. And just listen to that engine when you're worrying about the MPG.

Still reckon the GTA is one of the best cars I've ever owned.

Could still be tempted back into one..

They are not as bad on fuel if driven gently as you think - over 30mpg, but deliver stunning performance and noise when let loose...

Love em.

Buy one... now.

Prices have gone up sharply in the last 12 months. People were buying GTA's (156's especially) for £5-6k back then, more like 7-9k now. Good news for us existing owners (or those who bought 12 months ago!) but not so much for new buyers wink

Allright! No need to rub it in!

You could console yourself with a 166 3.0 V6 in the mean time, they still seem to be available quite cheap.

Bit heavier, but way better equipped.

Some slag off the looks but I park mine next to a 156 GTA in the company car park, and with the two next to each other I honestly prefer mine. I just wish I didn't have the baby 2.5 engine.

Having said that, both me and the GTA owner would rather like a Maserati biggrin

There was a GTA with roughly 80k going for £5800 recently.

Usual things to check for on the 156:

Cambelts
Oil Level
Service History
Squeaking from wishbones

The V6 is a trusty workhorse and at this mileage you should be checking the oil cooler pipes/radiator.

PS: Also early 156 GTA's had 305mm discs and were later upgraded to 355mm (sizes are probably wrong, but they went from a smaller size to larger) and the larger items are preferred (Alfa even upgraded a few under warranty).

Most were upgraded under warrenty, it's definatly worth checking. I think the figures were 305 and 330mm, but it's a while since I had mine done... under warrenty of coursesmile

AutoLusso had a low mileage example for sale recently - not sure if it's still around. Drives very well indeed.

This year I bought one for £4.5k, and sold it for £6k. 70k miles, 330 brakes, belts done....

There are bargains to be had out there. £9k is far too much.

I'll agree with jezb, £9k is far too much for a 156GTA unless it has literally no mileage on it (under a few thousand) and has been serviced every year despite that as well as having the belts done.

Yeah but you've got to be lucky, in the right place at the right time.

I just want the front seats out of one to stick in my 156, they look awesomely supportive.

While prices do seem to be generally pretty high, looks like there are still some silly cheap ones around. In black, as well.. Mmmm.. I think I know where my student loan's gonna end up! lick

There were questions raised about that one on Alfaowner as the GTA headlights should be dark/tinted.

Which makes you wonder whether it's been in some kind of bump (possibly completely innocent though).

GTA's are lovely smile

Hmmm, I didn't spot that! Good job I talk to you guys, really tongue out

It's possible that, since it's a black one, someone decided that the whiter lights would look better - and I'm in agreement with that - but since there's no explanation for the price being well under its competition on the Auto Trader, I think the boys at AO may well be onto something. Good call frown

The seats are comfy enough, but they could do with a *bit* more lateral support, and less stuffing - you sit too high.

I'm currently looking for some nice OEM replacements...saw some Ferrari 599 seats and thought, they'd look quite nice wink

The GTA should have Xenon's like mine in the picture below with black plastic inserts - looks like this has been repaired with standard headlights which don't look as good.
