Hi, I am thinking about getting a 2.8 (or possibly a 2 or 3.0s). I used to have a 2.0s in the 80's and loved it. I have some fantastic memories, but of course I was 18 then. I am only looking at fully cherished good examples. Will I be dissapointed? I'm not mechanically inclined so will it be ok to live with? Will the battery go flat if not driven regularly? I'm also thinking about a Ferrari Mondial (different kettle of fish, but surprisingly affordable - probably for a reason). I just fancy a really fun "modern classic", with the emphasis on fun!

I always wanted a Capri, the chap opposite had a nice 2.8i in maroon.

As for the battery, well um what does a classic have to drain power? Far less likely to go flat than a modern car IMO unless there's something up with it.

I run an 18 year old Landy and a 32 year old Triumph as daily drivers. Mostly no bother just look after them, if you can't do the work yourself pay someone. A Capri is likely to be cheaper in labour and parts than a Ferrari so unless you want to learn or are happy paying more the Mondial might not be the best bet.

Thanks for the advice.

By the way assuming I go for a 280 Brooklands, how do I know if its a real Brookie or a 2.8 face-lift? Also will a standard HPI check tell me if its been involved in any accidents?

Not really helpful but my old man had a blue/silver two tone Capri Cabaret II 2 litre automatic when I was a kid.

It had more filler than actual bodywork and more fag holes than upholstery! I can still remember him leaning back and giving me and my sis a slap for fighting every year on the long drive to Cornwall for holidays. Supertramp, ELO or Status Qup on the radio!

I'd still have one in a heartbeat, I love em!

I'm looking at buying one as a first car for my son (1600cc). He thinks they're cool. smile

I owned most of the different models through the seventies and eighties, plus a TVR with the 2.8i motor.

Mechanics and electrics are pretty simple and easy to fix, but I'll certainly be taking my magnet along with me. biggrin

Specialist Capri club forums will give you some advice on the Brooklands.
I believe the HPI check should show up a write-off claim, but not minor damage.
