Xmas/Eid/Ramada/ please comment...

So, we have a situation at work..... Christmas has arrived and so have the rosters for work. In an unusual move(credit crunch etc...) 7 days trading is upon us, so today we received the email that we are open on Bank holiday 26th of December. I work with a fairly small team and we had to make a choice who should be on.....upshot is that my work mates dont want to work and neither do I...BUT..all my other work mates dont want to also 'cos its Christmas'. My comment was (in a very genuinely and upfront but non confrontational way) well you dont follow Christianity and actually Christmas isn't a Muslim Holiday(or Islamic for the pedants- in'shalla)....(and actually Boxing Day isn't either but then Eid isn't an official one too)....so...comments please? I had to give up my day off(staff cover for EID)and explain to my CO(TA stuff) that I couldnt be at training that day because of work.

Now I totally understand multiculturalism (and can even spell it?) but why should I feel guilty because I want to follow a belief that I hold? FFS... my work mates where even happy to tell me that they 'where waiting for Ramadan to finish so they could get on it?(and had a nice couple of gramms of c and a nice bottle of whisky?)........

I am a militant fucr so will be insisting on St Georges day off....not because I want to make a point but because I feel I HAVE TOO? am I wrong? please correct me if I have sinned PH?

At my place i cover xmas whilst the atheists cover my eid days off... works fine, never had any issues....

Just go to your manager and justify your reason?

If its that clearcut then they wont have a problem with it, surely

I'm not Christian but I wouldn't entertain working xmas, this is because it's still a nice time of year for me. About the only time that all the family are free to meet up and enjoy good food and company. Also great atmosphere around that time of year.

Whereas on diwali/ eid etc, most other people don't really have anything other then the usual to do unless they celebrate it, though I appreciate in your case you had to take holiday for it.

If you are in such a multicultural team then you probably need to treat all of the religious holidays as 'bank holidays' then work out who wants each off the most - ie I'll work Eid, but you'll need to work Christmas etc.
