So I have at last found a watch I really like and am seriously considering. The aforementioned Tag Heuer Grand Carrera RS2, as per the title.

The help I need is in the technology behind the watch. There are 2 versions the Titanium Calibre 36 and Calibre 17, what is the difference ? Is one better than the other. Aesthetically I prefer the Calibre 17, however there is not a lot in it between the 2 for me and if the Calibre 36 is significantly better then thats the one for me.

Another question for those that are in the know. The RRP is £4400. I have already had one retailer offer it to me at £3750 and he internet has prices at the mid £3Ks. A US internet site has it close to £3K at the current exchange rate. Getting it from the US wont be a problem I go there fairly often. Are there other countries I should try, I have heard Dubai is a good place to get watches at prices significantly less than the UK, is that correct, is it safe.

Any help would be greatly appreciated and even opinions on the watch

be carefull when buying abroad as UK customs could stiff you with a big VAT bill which must be paid before they will release the watch.

Been to dubai many times, you tend to save around £700 on a £3000 TAG watch.
Best bet is to carry it in hand luggage with gift wrapping on it and say you got it before departing UK.

If you do go Dubai....go to the Dubai mall and go direct to the TAG shop, the guy there is very helpful.

A quick question, slightly off topic, of you bought a watch from Dubai & were wearing it on the way home how could customs know that you didn't already own it prior to going to Dubai. Unless they confiscated any and every nice watch being worn?!

They wouldn't, and you're unlikely to be stopped.

Just make sure that you DHL the box, receipt and warranty papers home as if you're carrying the lot and you're stopped they'd probably work it out...probably.

Be warey!

Friend of mine couple of years ago lived in the US for few months. before he came home he bought loads of electronic goods - video camera, SLR, for his own use. Wrapped up boxes in the big metal container that he got shipped over and carried the goods over in his bag as they were his pride and joy.

2 months later HMRC knock on his door demading lots of import VAT for the goods - they have the receipts, boxes. He paid pretty quickly!
