Alloy indicator stalk removal

Evening Guys

I have recently bought an indicator stalk off a damaged T350 with a view to putting it on my Tuscan, however...!

The stalk came complete with dark grey cloth gaiter which won't go with the orange ones on mine and i have no idea how to split the TVR alloy sleeve off the original Ford stalk.

I've tried putting the alloy end in boiling water to try a break the glue bond without any joy and i'm now thinking that the only way to remove the sleeve is to carefully break out the plastic.

Anybody out there know a way to split them in a less distructive way. Oh and if anydody has a spare wiper side one...

Paul the cover should be glued on, try putting it in vice and a rubber aligator grip and twisting it off.
Can't understand why you can't get it out of the fabric cover, and swap the whole Ford stalk. Mine came out easily enough when I fitted new Leven ones. Just a electrics plug block to disconnect and a release button to press. It was then I discovered the steering wheel not only adjusted up and down but also in and out (after 3 years of ownership).

The alcantara is well and truly wedged into the gap between the alloy and the Ford stalk, won't budge but will try a little more force...

I wasn't intending to fit it until i'd found one for the wiper side, too good to miss at £20!
