Can anybody recommend a decent vacuum cleaner, one that actually picks up on carpet, isn't too heavy and doesn't cost the earth. And it needs to have a bag in it apparently! rolleyes

Cheers

Somewhere, not to far from here on the interweb, probably lurking on the next page of this forum is all you need to know.

It may be a miele, or a henry or possibly even a dyson, but looking for thirty eight seconds down the list here and you'll read what everyone has already written on this subject over the last couple of months.

Get a Henry, if it's good enough to vacum the oil and gravel from the garage then it's good enough for the lounge carpet.

Anyway, I always use them.

Avoid Dyson if you want something that is lightweight. They are very effective imo but are very heavy.

In the last Which? test 8 of the top ten were Miele. Best for carpet was Miele Cat & Dog.

The Henry was in the list of 8 'Do NOT Buys'. Good for rubble, pish for anything else

There's a reason why most shops have a Henry as their vacumn cleaner:- lightweight, sturdy, reliable and good suction...although I usually go with the Which reports best buy recommendation.

Thanks for the pointer Spikeyhead!

Had a good read through the posts and reckon the Miele TT5000 looks good value / performance.

We have no pets but want something with good suction obviously.

Anyone had one who can honestly say it's worth getting?

We have the Cat & Dog, we do have a cat. Had it now for about 5 years and gets used for the house, car and after DIY etc. I've dropped it down the stairs (by accident) a couple of times and it keeps running perfectly. The mini turbo brush head is also very good for doing the car.

We've got the TT and the wife reports it's very good! Trouble free in the 3 years we've had it and it has loads of suction, not sure how much they cost but it was expensive when we urchased - £220 IIRC.
