Hi Guys
My wife keeps going on about a camera advertised on tv last year!
The advert has a kid taking the camera outside taking a picture of a dog, dropping the camera in some mug, washing it off from the hose then brining it back indoors all shiney and new!!
1st question: what camera is it?
2nd question: its obvious the camera is robust but is the camera any good?
3rd question; is there any other camera that are equally robust and takes good photos?
Thanks in advance
Andy

It was an Olympus, although frankly I'd teach the brat in the advert to be a bit more respectful of things.

It might be in this test: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/Q209waterproofgrou...

Its the Olympus Mju TOUGH 8000

Overall a great robust camera but does lack on the zoom, this is because the case is a sealed design.

It has a metal construction and all the usual features. (face detection ect ect)

There is not alot in competition, all together a well built camera. ideal for adventuring without having to worry. I would recommend if possible get a extended guarantee as this will give the extra reassurance also over time the seals may fail.
i am unsure is this is still a problem but it is still recommended that the o-rings and seals are replaced every 12 months on some waterproof cases. this may not be on the Olympus as the only seals being resat every time are for the memory and battery slot.

That does indeed seem a big premium for clumsiness. Of course if you want to go swimming with it then you just have to stump up smile

I bought one for my wife to replace her casio exilim which my son dropped and broke.

They're really solid little devices - feel like they're carved from a chunk of metal.

Picture quality, well it's ok for a point and shoot, but won't have anyone trading in their SLR.
