We are going to Geneva on Friday for the weekend to visit some mates, flying Sleazy Jet; hand luggage only!

We have a suitable suitcase 55x40x20 cm

BUT can we take my SLR camera bag and a handbag as well? If I carry handbag & he carries the camera bag?

Any advice from seasoned travellers gratefully received thumbup

Seems to depend on the airport. Sometimes they stick to the one bag rule rigidly, ie no bag and handbag, other times it doesn't seem to matter.

The answer seems to be a coat with very large pockets...

Stanstead appears to be most rule-abiding, in my experience.

I thought you could take a sports bag sized bag and a laptop seperatley so maybe a small camera bag would be OK too ?

can you check in online? IME as long as you avoid the pedants on the check in desk you'll be ok, especially if you board last minute so they can't sting you with the chip n pin machine.

i usually take a small case under the limit plus a satchel. i pack a heavy duty rubble sack in case they get arsey - 2 bags in one sack = one bag!

Should say on EasyJets website, at least it did on Virgins when I last flew - one piece of hand luggage plus laptop bag (long haul though).

Yes but there is a weight limit on the 1 bag that you can take on, normally 5-7Kg.

It does, but I'm used to being able to take hang luggage, my handbag and a suitcase when checking one in. I don't usually fly hand luggage only, but we are restricted due to the car we are in at the other end frown

It says I can take a plastic shoppingbag of stuff bought at the Airport, so if worst comes to the worst, I'll have a bag in my bag and put it in that? idea

I flew squeezyjet from Bristol to Berlin recently. Bristol was OK, they took a look at my bag and tagget it for cabin use. Berlin was another matter. In the frame twice and a large number of people were being grabbed at the gate. Policy is 1 item with a size range but no weight limit. You must be able to lift it over your head.

As advised earlier. Wear a coat and but stuff in the pockets!

[aside]I flew to India on a flight with a guy going on a photographic holiday. He wore all his hit on a belt arrangements. Security were OK with it and the airline had no idea if it was 1 item or not so he boarded.

Ali, Take one of those bag for life things that will fold up small- yet still fit in the camera and handbag, if you need it. We have always needed it usually fly from Gatwick or Luton.

I'm a photographer, and only had a problem once, that was at Birmingham with Emirates. Bear in mind I generally have two camera bodies, several large lenses and a laptop in one bag, it's not bad going. After arguing I wasn't putting any of the above in a suitcase to be thrown around, they let me take a laptop bag and the camera bag.

Anyway, digressing a bit, I've never had a problem with Easyjet. The Emirates one was because it was heavy, whereas easyjet don't worry about that. I've also done the whole lenses in the pocket thing as well...

Sometimes they don't bother weighting but ask you if it's heavy. Did it to me with my camera bag once. Lifted it up with one finger and stated, look, light as a feather and nothing more was said. What they couldn't see was all the veins sticking out of my arm and me wondering if my finger would break...

I flew with Easyjet in October from Edinburgh to Luton and there was a strict policy of only one item. If you had a handbag you had to put it in your suitcase.

Oh and remember that toiletries etc have to be in 50ml bottles, my facewash got binned. frown

At Gatwick I was allowed to hold my laptop in my hand while we went through security but it couldn't be in it's bag. Once I got through I was able to put it back in. On the X-Ray machine belt!!! Red tape nonsense!!

Couple of options there thanks biggrin

Am going to use the camera bag as my handbag - tis big enough! And put my handbag in the case. IF they have problem, I'll put it in a shopping bag for life biggrin
