I have an 07 Golf GT.

I have noticed that the rain sensing wipers do not sense the rain. The screen has to be full of water to the point I cannot see before they wipe, if at all.

Does anybody have any experience of the rain sensing unit? How much are they to replace?

If it's 07 then under warranty, surely...?

Mine seem over-sensitive. Hate the things.

Used to have one, from what I remember you can adjust the sensitivity with a switch on one of the stalks.

On every speed setting they are equally unresponsive. If you switch it up a level whilst having the wipers on this mode they wiper once, then not again.

Think the only two times it has ever worked it was on the top level.

re: warrenty, well I had an engine problem and they did not want to know due to the cars milage (83k). Even though ten months earlier they had fitted a new engine! After much wrangling they offered a good will payment of half. But at the dealers extortionate prices it was still cheaper to get it sorted myself.

The car has had a new windscreen due to a bird hit. Could this have caused a problem? Everything looks as it should, but you can never be sure.

Im fairly sure all work carried out on a car must carry a years warranty? Bit off-topic but what engine is it, TSI or TDI?

Yes, if the rain sensor was not attached correctly to the new windscreen, I've heard of this happening before.

It's a Diesel engine with engine code BKD. The turbo failed so I coasted into a layby about 400m away. At no point did the oil light come on. The said it was my fault for driving round with no oil in. If the light had come on I'd of knocked the engine off!

What is the best way to have a fiddle with the unit? How is it attatched the window?

The auto wipers on golfs are crap for some people. If you wash the car by the 'hand car wash people' then this could explain it. The wax used during the wash stays on the screen and confuses the sensor. Try not washing the car for a while and see what happens.

Usually just wash it at home! Might try some glass cleaner to see if anything changes.
