As per the title can four six footers sit in a bmw 1 series 5 door? I hope they can as this is the car I would most like to buy.

Thanks in advance.

Also while i'm here anyone running a 120d auto, what mpg figures do you achieve?

Sticks.

I got no more than 42mpg from mine (177).

My friend's admittedly tall 11 year old found it too cramped in the back. I'm 5'11" and tried sitting in the back but found it too confined behind the driver's seat set for me.

I had lots of minor issues with mine and I wished that at the point the price was agreed I'd looked at how much 3 Series I could have got, or even a Golf.

Sorry, but...

I would hope so. When I was at school, four of us used to pile into my Mini Special to and from games, etc - the smallest of us was six foot and fourteen stone.

Interesting,

4 6' guys have sat in my 123d Coupe for a 12 hour drive each way in not too much discomfort, and I very very regularly drive tall people around in the back on short distances... I can happily sit behind myself, knees not touching the seat and I have the seat very low and back, although I'm only 5'11".

This is of course a coupe not a hatch, but I can't see the hatch having less space? Or is someone going to tell me it does?

35 to 40 mpg with a 2006 pre-Efficient Dynamics model.

Yes, they can. I'm 6' 2" and two similar sized friends joined me on a trip to the Western Isles recently - that's an 1100 mile round trip with 22 hours in the car.

However personal preference may differ as it's not massive in the back. My kids are fine, but at 6 & 9 I wouldn't expect anything different....

Are these folk family or friends? Will you be using it as a 'taxi'?
Why not just buy what you want and let them accept your decision?

hi,

thanks for the replies ill be carrying people from time to time but it will not be used as a "taxi". I want a car that is for me, not one for the passengers! Ill go and try one for size when I get the time.

It seems like the auto harms fuel economy quite considerably?

You'll get 4 6'footers in. It might not be the comfiest ride for the rear passengers though, but hardly the worst either. The main problem is the poor rear access due to the laughably bad layout of the rear doors. It makes getting in & out back there surprisingly awkward, especially for taller folk. But once in, it's ok.

mpg's.. I've got anything from 35 to 52mpg out of an early 120D Se Auto. Like any car, it's entirely dependant on how it's driven. But for an auto thats reasonably brisk I honestly think real world mpg is pretty decent And later models will only be better still, going on what i've read of them.

If you are regularly carrying people perhaps you should look at the X1 sDrive 20d SE?

It costs in between that of a 1-series and 3-series and should have more room in the back.
