I prefer the looks of the current one if I'm honest!

Seems to be more a case of styling evolution rather than the revolution that the last one was.

Not a bad thing in my opinion.

Looks ok.

I'm fairly confident the first time I physically stroll around the M5 variant it will spell trouble.

Its a bit err, kinda, big down the side, "slab sided" as people say, maybe? Theres a lot of door, and not a lot of window, i think, i cant quite put my finger on it. Maybe the big wheeled models will look more interesting.

Mind you, what do i know, i though the e60 looked ace, everyone else hated it.

Problem is, it's like the Ford Focus was, evolution on a design that is very 'designed' just doesn't work.

As much as some don't like Bangles work, I quite like lots of it, and it just doesn't work too well diluted to appeal to a wider taste.

It just looks a bit flat and bland now...

I preferred the old E39 for the restrained and regal look. Smoothing off and blanding Bangle stuff just makes cars look like big turds imho, there is no cohesion to it anymore, just random lines for the sake of it, no flow over the whole form... a bit naff imho.
Half-way house off Bangle's E60 just isn't working imho. Make a full change again to something more restrained, or re-make the magic of the E60 with a new and stunning design. It doesn't look new or fresh or interesting. It just looks like 'a car'

Totally disagree; whilst the E39 is 'classic' the E60 can look fabulous: E60 B5 alongside old M5 - new car looks not just fresher but far, far more effective.

At what?

While the e60 can look good the e39 will always look better in my eyes; one of the best looking saloons around.

Sharper, faster and more modern, in a good way.

Which of course, it is.

That way.

DeR, I wouldn't argue with Patrick Bateman if I were you. But complement his business card & you should be OK.

I agree the E60 is nicer than the E39, I meant *if* the style is to be a restrained one, the E39 pulled that style of more effectively.

IF the style is intended to be sharp and new/fresh/fast looking, this new one fails to improve... infact it is a step backwards vs the E60.

If BMW want to step back to restrained styling and subtlety, then the E39 kinda look was more effective. This half way house of restrained Bangle E60 just doesn't work...

If the E60 or E39 were shown from a bad angle on small alloys in white, they would also look bad. So I suspect in showroom trim this will be a bit better.

Does look very much like a cross between the current 3-series and 7-series though, rather than a distinct model like the E60 does.

+1,and the E39 looks far better inside-the horrid Idrive system/screen looks dated and clumsy in the E60.The E39 is just a great ergonomic desing.

The Press always prefer the E39 aswell..

I like it, but like I saw in another post it looks like it came out in 2003. For a 2010 car it look old.

It looks ok. I much prefer the previous generation on looks though. It does look like the styling will age quite badly.
