SL (R230 - SL500/SL55) Phone

I have an early SL55 (but I guess any R230 is the same) with a Nokia 6310 phone in a cradle in the centre compartment. I'm sure it used to power on when I switched the Command on but no longer. Instead, I get a message "Phone not connected" or similar and I have to do a contortionist impersonation to switch the phone on manually before Command will se it. Is yours the same?
