My Uncle has tasked me with finding him some bottles of Angostura Bitters. I thought this would be easy, bit of Google work, find the UK supplier, jobs a goodun? Well, no frown

Apparantly the factory in Trinidad & Tobago closed, and has only recenly been bailed out by their Government, but there is a vacuum in the supply chain now. The UK distributor will not be getting stock in 'till after Christmas, so I turn to the power of PH to ask if anyone knows of anywhere with a stock of Angostura?

Surely there must be a village shop with a couple of dusty bottles sitting out back who would send them out to deepest Sussex?

Its usually available in the spirits section of most supermarkets next to the obscure cocktail liqueurs like Bols blue.

My local Sainsburys store has then (that's where I got mine) - might be worth a gander around your local supermarkets on the off chance?

most supermarkets and oddbins should stock it.

alternatively, you can buy fancy bitters by Peychaud, Bitter Truth, or Fee Brothers. All of which are available online.

As I understand it, most supermarkets 'sell it', the problem is current supply. No one seems to have it in stock ATM

condor's kind offer should hopefully see my uncle through to Christmas when supply should resume smile

wine warehouses (threshers, oddbins etc etc) should do it, if not just go to your nearest pub and ask where they got theirs

I have bottle which I'd had for 10+ years. I can't recall ever using it, either.

Where does the angostura go in a rusty nail?

You only need

Whisky x50ml
Drambuie x50ml
lemon juice
ice

I would have thought that a good independent off licence might have some kicking about, Somewhere like the Harveys shop in Lewes?

I once invented a new cocktail, using only the alcoholic beverages to hand: Angostura Lager.

Ditto, was when I was young and working in my local - alas can't remember it now....

I have a bottle I use for vodka lime and soda, find it helps to line the glass with a few drops before adding the ingredients.

Other than that, not really sure what else to use it for - suggestions welcome!

That will be a long vodka you are describing. Most people drink it with lemonade rather than soda though these days.
