Who's the "best" Sag-inspector?

Hello folks!
I slowly start looking for a Sag now. I live in Germany and have no possibility to check cars in GB (and i don't have the knowledge) so i want to engage a TVR-inspector.
I have heard of Rob Ingleby and his services .
Are there some other inspectors recommended (or inadviseable)?

Josef, if I were in your position i.e. in another country wanting to buy a Sag / or any TVR for that matter I'd buy from a main dealer to give me some peace of mind.

Car inspectors will give you a relatively generic report on the vehicle, I know i've paid for one and compared it to a mates inspection and they were almost identical on a T350 & Tuscan MK1. Also if there is an issue with the car you have no come back on an independent inspector as they cover themselves to the point where it's not really worth paying for.

IMHO you should buy from a main dealer, get them to throw in a warranty because if you do have an problem hopefully, they can sort it.

Anyone can find a good car and pass off a fantastic report. WHere the money is earned is when they find the dogs and stop you buying!

Hey Hoolio!
I also think, that this will be the easiest way to buy (and they can deliver it to Germany!!!), but they never sell cars below 35.000.- for a 2005 one (and mostly around 20.000 miles)!
If i want to buy at Racinggreen (i had a visit there in 2008), i have to spent min. 5.000.- more... (best would be the FFF-Sag!)

Paul or Heath at X Works service examine any TVR I want to buy and then service and maintain them for me.
They were the TVR Factory Service Managers for years. Have seen all the models.

I've recently used Rob Ingleby to source a 2003 Cerbera LW for shipment overseas. The man and the service he offers are exceptional. Along with a detailed inspection looking for TVR specific issues. He's filled all the gaps to enable a smooth, stress free purchase. This included, recommendation on which cars to inspect, initial contact with the sellers, a very detailed inpsection report, perfonal evaluation, purchase excahnge of keys and money, delivery to port, insturctions to port workers for shipping. He's also incredibly easy to work with in a difficult situation (remote purchases arent easy!) All for a very reasonable price. If I'm ever to purchase another TVR I'll certainly use Rob again, I couldn't recommend him higher. http://www.findasportscar.co.uk/

hmmm, the main question for me is "Do I really trust a car dealer?"

They can tell me everthing about a car and aslong i'm standing in front of my "dream-machine", i would believe everthing...

so, my conclusion is to post it here at PH at first and get informations from other people.
I think the best cars are those, which were sold a short time ago from a Pistonheader to a dealer (like the black one at Fernhurst-i think it belongs to "Darren"), because the PHer would tell you everthing about it...

It's frightening how much this topic still comes up. If anyone has taken the time to read the thread Tony (Zippee) linked, then I think it's fair to say that anyone performing this service is only actually worth the money they charge when they steer you away from a superficially nice looking car, which is actually a heap. There are not many who could say that about this service, and plenty who could say the opposite. Those of you lucky enough to get a good one are just that - lucky. And probably not best placed to discuss the overall service.
Personally if I was back in the market for a TVR, I'd certainly be giving James Agger a call.

in reading the post it mentions not taking time to look underneath, Rob had mine up on axle stands to give it the once over, as you say it all down to personal experience, but as i have found this site is great for posting problems and bad service, we all seem to forget the good.

I'm at a loss to explain how you can read that whole thread and think this was the major issue.

Hi Zeppo.
My Sag will be up for sale very soon - There are a couple of pics in my profile.

Its quite a well known car and won the title of "Supercar of the year" at Supercar Sunday at Gaydon earlier this year and was also displayed on the TVR club stand at the classic car show a couple of weeks ago.

If your interested, I'd be happy for the car to be inspected anywhere of your choice. I'm close to TVR Power - I'm sure they'd be happy to give the once over and they have a great reputation. On a smaller scale in the middle of England (Birmingham), I use a specialist called Top Gear Automotive. They also have a great reputation but are a smaller company and less well known.
