Any recomendations for a great steak in London? I've been to Gaucho but was looking for a change. I see there have been a few newish ones open like "Palm", "Goodman" and "Hawksmoor"? Has anyone been to these ar any others? ( and no, I don't fancy the Angus steakhouse before some joker posts it!!)

Second Sophies - decent steaks at a good price.

Sophie's in Covent Garden, isn't too bad, Smiths of Smithfields (top floor) is rather good, but I have to say The Hawksmoor tops all of the above by quite a bit.

The quality of the meat, the choice of cut and also outstanding deserts. Plus they do corkage, which is kinda handy.

Hawksmoor. Best steak I've ever eaten in this country by miles. And the macaroni and cheese is not too shabby either.

It may be due to me being poor and/or not very well travelled but I've never tasted a steak better than that served at Gaucho's.

Have you tried a Belted Galloway rib at Goodman? That is better than anything Gaucho does, and I like Gaucho.

Hawksmoor is good - but I'm still not sure they deliver that quintessential "big ass fat motherfkin prime steak blackened on the outside and pink in the middle" that you can get fairly easily in almost any city in the USA at places like Palm or Ruths Chris

JW Steakhouse in the Grosvenor Hotel, Park Lane is amazing. I've been to Hawksmoor, Gaucho and Goodman and still rate JW as the best.

It has an amazing dining room with tall ceilings and chalkboard specials all over the walls. The majority of the steaks are served by the 100g so when I go, I usually share a 1kg steak with whoever I'm dining with. Nice sides and desserts too.

Maze Grill is pretty good.
They bring all the meat out first for you to inspect (as I think other places also do).
You could end up spending quite a bit in there!

I was underwhelmed, the food was, at best average
Goodman or the Gun IMHO are far far better
Yep agree, it was good but not outstanding. The Scallops were pretty decent though.

I went to Smiths of Smithfield recently. Frankly it was rubish. It's only saving grace was that it served some very good Islay Malts which helped erase the memory of dinner.

Gaucho is equally rubbish - and enormously over-priced.

Sophies and The Hawksmoor I liked a lot.
