Hi,
I know of a TVR Cerbera that could be going to the scrap yard in the sky, I have the chance to claim it.....
The original owner has moved and left the car, he has had a couple of letters too get it moved but hasn't bothered. He left the car with a colleague who was supposed to sell it on (He wanted £10,000 for it).
So it has sat there for a year maybe more, as I said it's off to the scrappy.
It looks straight could do with a wash... but have been told that the engine is shot, the original owner was told that it will cost £5000 to put right...! Something to do with the head.
Is it worth saving? It will deffo need the brakes and tires changed, now how much would a new engine be? or to have a head re-build?
I don't know which model it is I would need to have a better look at the weekend.
Any ideas???
Regards
Tim

if you have a look and find out some more about it and think its a little too much for you to handle, then post some info on here as there as always some crazy fool on here who might give it a go
best to let someone who loves them save it, rather than let it go to some scrappy who will sell it on to a poor unsuspecting person under the impression that it just needs a service and MOT

wouldnt mind a second one

i might just be crazy enoughHope it's not the yellow one! If it really only needs engine work then the cheapest option might be a 2nd hand engine for 2 or 3 k? But 5k for a rebuild is prob about right.
I would tread carefully as the bills can quickly mount up - chassis work, paint work , tyres, brakes, carpet, electricals a service, exhaust, a few bits n pieces and you could start to easily move over 10k even doing most of it yourself.

Wheels might be worth v little if they are the 'wrong' ones and / or need refurb. Interiors rarely sell for much. The front seats are sometimes bought by owners of chimareas as an upgrade, but not for much.
Fingers crossed chassis is fine. If it is and electrics seem ok and interior is fine then if you could get for 5k then you got yourself a good project. Otherwise buy a sorted one for 10k.

I'm looking for a car to convert to electric as per the Tesla and a Cerbera like this would fit the bill.
If the engine is a scrapper it would suit me as long as the car is legally obtained.
See my Lotus Elise EV on www.evalbum.com/1454

Okay, I've just realised there is something worse than a yank conversion on a cerb.If the engine is a scrapper it would suit me as long as the car is legally obtained.

You my good man, are the spawn of the devil.
Why do this?
Ruin a cerb.
No real green benefit IMHO - the electricity generated requires fuel burning (plus you still have an M3)
Costs a fortune to build.
You dont end up with a drivers car.
Limited range.
Batteries are very poor 'green' rating (terrible pollution and landfill waste).
Is this a post top gear wind up? Hey thats an idea. You could stick a huge wind up mechanism on it and a big spring! Or maybe just live at the top of a hill and free wheel to work.

Sorry to upset so many people.
Cars will be electric soon. It is inevitable.
This addiction we have for oil is untenable.
Until you have tried full torque at all speeds and no gear shifts necessary, don't knock it.
I don't squeak along in the gutter, I fly along as quick if not quicker than my M3 on my daily 15 mile each way to work. I use about 4kWh of electricity to cover that distance. Work the costs out yourself.
I charge it at night with a free top up at work.
I am a former petrolhead but my M3 is only kept for the occasional business run.
Regarding emissions, work out how much carbon is generated for 4kw of electricity compared to a quick 15 mile drive in the M3. You will be surprised.
My LiFePo4 cells by the way are regarded as having no dangerous chemicals and are allowed to be disposed of in normal waste as they consist mostly of steel and copper unlike lead acid cells which are hazardous.
They are fully recyclable, read it up on the Tesla site.
I drive an EV for fun as they are just that. It is not a Gee Wizz!!!

I find the parallels between this and the Chevy engines remarkable.
Any minute now someone will give out performance figures to show the electric car would win at the pod, and a whole bunch of people will actually consider doing it.
Those who don't immediately rush to the performance figures will be wowed over by tales of reliability, and the fact that 'it should have been the future of the marque'.
I just find I can't look at a car body without seeing the engine. Its the beating heart of its character.
In a bland world of repmobiles and boring engines, its a little diamond. Sometimes when I think of Chevy powered or electric Cerbs I feel a little piece of vomit in my mouth.
[usual disclamer that I am in no way belittling the enginering challenge of putting an electric engine or Chevy engine in a Cerb, and I do realise I'd be part of the only pressure group throwing rotten cabbages at both the fuel guzzler and the eco car]
