Fans running continuously

Hi all,
5 weeks ago car got a bit wet and the next day found that my radiator fans were running continuously.
That week had to keep taking the fuse out but I wasnt realy concerned.
Left a dehumidifier in every night and now have got home from 4 weeks business travel, to find the fans still come on as soon as the fuse goes back in.
Guessing on stuck relay or trinery(air con switch) switch.

Any comments gratefully received.

I had the same issue earlier this year. Turned out to be the Temp Sensor to be replaced.

I would just try cleaning the contacts on the two temp sensors first.

I had the same issue since I bought my car in May. It just comes and goes, and I am now an expert in assuming the TVR position: getting myself upside down under the steering wheel, to take the fuse out..!

However, it fixes itself, so not sure what it is. It was suggested that the relay might be at fault but havent got round to getting a new one and changing it.

And excuse my ignorance, but where are the temp sensors located? Might as well try cleaning them...

Hi All,
Forgot about the temp sensor. Had that problem on my Mk1. Even changed the sensor.
Thanks for the reminder.
If its not raining tomorrow its bonnet off.

Arapaho the temp sensor is on the side of cylinder #5...or is it 4...anyway youll see it.
You need to lift the air box of to get at it. Its a common problem for the contacts of the plug / socket to get dirty.

The trinary switch (I think?) on the a/c can fail open which means the fans are on all the time. Could be this.


ETA: Re-read and if the fans are on without ignition on please ignore the above

I think the trinary switch only operated the near side fan. More likely to be the ECU temperature sensor as that puts both fans on when open circuit.

Thanks for the feedback, yes, both fans on with ignition off.
Too wet today to look but first port of call is the temp sensor.

Try your relay switch i had this prolem and it was a falty relay switch.

Is it one of the relays on the fuse board ? 23 or 51 ?
Is the Mk2 layout the same as th Mk1 ? (I guess I should get my head down under the fuse board and check myself).

There the ones try and wiglle each one thats whot told me it was one of them with the fan on and wiglle it and it went of .
