I'd put the good stuff in yours. Check out National Tyres offer http://www.national.co.uk/order_oil.asp

They will do a full synth oil change for £34 (or £31.60 if your car is in their system and you pay online).

I had to take my own filter for the VXR8, but they do have a listing for the Monaro. Filters used are Unipart.

Thanks ARAF.
Comes up with semi and i can't help thinking it shoud be fully synthetic 10w 40 but the booklet to monaro saying 10w 30 and my local vauxhall couldn't tell me today either scratchchin
Really why i ask what every one has in there engine?

Semi wouldn't hurt a stock engine, but I really think you could do with the better sheer resistance that a full synth normally has, or do the oil changes more frequently. As to grade, IIRC 10w30 is original spec, but if you get an oil which performs well outside of the range then again you are protecting the engine. Castrol recommend 5w30 or for extra performance 0w40 for the LS2.

Both are full synthetic.

Don't worry about that (0-40), these lubes are good. I raced a Big block using a 0 weight synthetic, yes 0. And when a roller follower turned 90* on the cam the needle rollers got sent round the motor, in particular around the rear main. It did not blow up!.

I wouldnt recomend a 0 grade oil really, very thin and only really good on high tolerence engines like the M series BMW's etc. I used it in my old 330 but as the mile went up (180k) it got a little worn and rattled on o grade so went to 5 grade (5w40) and it all quietened down again.

BTW I have 8 ltrs of 5w30 mobile one fully sync if anyone want it for a decent price...? smile

Isn't the whole idea of a multigrade, that it keeps it's viscosity over a range of temperatures?

Once 5w30 warms up in the engine, it will be as thin as 0w40.

I didn't recommend a 0 weight (that was by way of eaxmple) , I just said he would be OK with his 0-40 multigrade.

On the ls engines they are a simple beast so 5w30 or 10w40 would probably be best as the thinner 0 oils may be a bit thin, doubt it would damage the engine but it might start using it,the Bmw m power engines use a special 10w60 Castrol Edge oil which would probably work quite well. its expensive though smile

i use 5w30 comma fully syth, meets all the gm standards

is it ok to use different vicosities? surely gm designs all the engines using there recommended oil viscosites? considering flow, etc. would it not be better to use what they recommend?

i once put 10w60 in my skyline because a few people recommended it, what a waste of money! (i wasnt the most technicly minded person at that time!)

then went straight back to 5w40, no way would i reach temps for that oil even on the track plus it was only pushing 40hp over stock. bit overkill i think.

yess ive just started using the same as was using castrol edge and it was drinking it the comma aka mobil 1 seems like it keeps its viscosity better

I agree, that was my point. How do you value your engine??? I'd always spend the extra for a full synthetic, just in case there was an issue that demanded that extra protection.

(I Had a problem with the Passat and lost all it's water on a German motorway but was able to nurse it into the nearest town 4 km's away without any damage - fully synthetic).

What does bladder control have to do with the oil in your engine? hehe
