Random one, but does anyone know if an E46 M3 SMG box will fit in the transmission tunnel of a 1973 2002 Auto ?

Its just, I've had an idea.

I'm 99% sure it doesn't.

As a guide, the E30 M3 box doesn't even fit without cutting and reshaping the tunnel, and I think the E46 box is a bit bigger.

It's been said elsewhere vix but the 'tronics are a pain in the arse to sort on an SMG II.

S50B32 is clearly the way forward.

Charlie, I'll put the question out in the BMW Car Club community, in the offchance someone might know the bellhousing envelope dimensions of both.

Think the important thing is that its an Automatic 2002, which has a bigger trans tunnel.

Cheers.

If it doesn't, then fabricate it too fit. Sounds like your doing a ''proper'' conversion, so hopefully you wont mind a little chopping up!

No point chopping out bits of well engineered mono to replace with sheet metal if you don't have to though. You'd only be reducing cabin space too.
