Hi all,

I need to get hold of a radiator fan for my project, a 250bhp 2l 16v turbo Fiat Punto GT.

The one I have now is a Spal/Kenlowe wannabe and to be honest, is pathetic, I think I could blow harder.

Any reccommendations as to a fan I could use? Needs to be slim and around 10" in diameter.

Cheers.

Surprised to hear you're not pleased with the Spal. I thought they were pretty good.

When you say, it doesn't blow hard enough, under what conditions does the engine overheat?
Basically, any radiator fan will only help when the car is moving slowly. If the system is overheating at any other time, it isn't the fan that's at fault.

Oh, and I expect you've checked this, but your fan isn't trying to push, when it should pull, is it?

Its not a real spal, just a cheaper version.

Definately pushing the right way, just seems to do not a lot!

Overheats most of the time due to being a stonkingly big engine in a small space with a small rad fan.

another thing you could consider is extra ventilation to extract the hot air, bonnet vents, side vents etc, when i was building my own kit car i asked for advice from a radiator specialist who told me that any air coming through the grille should be able to get out just as easy.

In which case, changing the fan won't cure the problem.

Get a bigger rad and arrange for proper airflow through it.

Let me rephrase that.

It overheats when the rad fan would usually control the temp. It already has a large Pace Alloy Rad.

I basically need to know if anyone has any reccommendations for a good fan.

Thanks for the help.

Is the rad fan cowled in, to stop air simply blowing out the front and sucking back in through the rest of the rad, or is it simply strapped in the middle of the rad? The 'un-fanned' part of your rad is simply passing hot water back to the engine.

The biggest problem with rad fans is there is no way to get the hot air away from the area after it has passed through. Often it will simply blow around and get sucked back into the rad.
