I am wanting a replacement frame and cover, used to have a nasty pressed tin one but its rusted though in places. I am looking for something more heavy duty, D400 class cast iron, or similar would be nice as I am not a fan of all the flexing and hollow noises you get from the thin ones. Its out of sight so appearance is not an issue and second hand is absolutely fine.

Does anyone know where to get one from, second hand ideally as it would feel weird to spend vast amounts of money on a drain cover! Does not need to be liquid or gas tight. Struggling to find a supply of new ones never mind second hand ones!

Advice appreciated. I am not interested in ones that look like they were hastily extracted from some tarmac late at night!

Typical!! I am suspecting this is why I cannot find one as all the old ones will be going for scrap, and new ones are generally sold to the utility contractors for vast money and not really to the public.

Hopefully one will turn up.

B&Q do the heavy duty ones for about £40-£50, or £14 for the galvanised type.

Just replaced one a few weeks ago.

I did have a look on there website and they all seem to be the lightly galvanised ones no cast iron stuff. Will call at a Warehouse on my way home and have a look at them.

Why on earth would you want a D400 cover for domestic use?

If you're replacing an old rusty CI jobbie, get either a 5 tonne or 10 tonne, they'll be quite good enough for domestic drives.

D400 are highway grade, high-speed traffic.
