CDR Probs....an update!

I still cant make the writer work.
Two sets of software, both set to finalise the CD (the same method I have used succesfully for the past 3 years!) but still to no avail.
The disc reads as being "full" so its burning something, it just wont show me whats on the discs! This happens for both music and data discs.
Where should I look next?
The quality of the CD's?
A physical problem with the writer?
Another hardware problems?
Any advise appriciated....as always!

Lite-On 48x16x4 not sure exact model (am posting from another PC at the mo so cant check!)
3 years old
Nero 5.5.8.0 and Adaptec...(not sure, will check!)
MP3 disc (as a data disc), standard data disc (pics vids etc) and music discs 78 and 80 mins.
CD-R all the time
