I like the front clip, but not too keen on the rest. Still, if it works...

Notice there's no mention of its origins!

That rear end is the ugliest thing on the planet! The fronts not bad I guess but what was the guy thinking?

He used to sell GTRs in Germany that were "vastly" improved to the originals, according to the site a few years ago.

The side pod shaping leaves a lot to be desired, and yes the rear looks nasty.

I might buy a front end from him if I don't get around to modifying my own.
The wheels are from ATS. I like them.

Seeing something that ugly makes me appreciate how well integrated the GTR really is. Yes I would like to see a simpler solution to the headlights, but the GTR is well done from every angle. One of the car events that I went to until it was closed a couple weeks ago was Super Car Sunday. It was very common to have car people of some note be at this event. Designers from the Los Angeles design studios of G.M, Audi, ect. Students and teachers from the Pasedena design center college attended. Jay Leno, and several Pebble Beach Concours winners ect. All of them looked at the GTR I never heard a bad word spoken about the design of the car. Yes sometimes they knew I was the owner but in many instances they didn't. The only guy that ever bad mouthed the car was a kid with a tesler electric car said he could outrun the GTR in straight line. I asked him if he had the pink slip, he changed the subject. Lee

Why would I listen to somebody who drives a Puma try to explain what good car design looks like? The fact that a lot of the so called short comings of the Ultima products are pointed out by folks who have never built or driven one of the cars, Speaks loudly. Lee

God knows why building or driving a car should have any relation to an opinion about its looks but anyway, I studied Product Design at uni so Im qualified to have an opinion on how stuff looks, I dont work in the field but I maintain a keen interest in automotive design. The Puma isnt a bad looking car and as it was my first car has worked out pretty well, insurance etc wasnt too bad, I didnt buy it to express my belief that the car was somehow the best looking thing on the road, I bought it to get me to work and have a mildly interesting drive at the same time.

So, car snobbery aside, why the personal attack on someone who dared to mention that your choice of car might be a bit on the ugly side? Lets face it, Top Gear wont have it on, probably as it looks a bit nasty in spite of it actually being a brilliant car. The Glass house of the Ultima is too tall in relation to the front of the car, the quad headlights are awful and the rear has no depth to it making it appear cheap. IMO one of the major problems is that the car was clearly designed in profile where it looks good, then the gap between the 2 sides just kind of filled in.

The front view is awful as the glass house is far too big compared to the body of the car and it ends up looking like a goldfish bowl with ears. Then the very front is even lower and makes the whole thing look top heavy and melted in the middle. Basically the proportions are all over the place and it clearly wasnt designed by someone who has studied car aesthetics for very long. Lee Noble doesnt design pretty cars, he never has and probably never will, good cars yes, pretty? No.

I think everyone (Poo-face-Puma included) has missed the point that the car was designed to look like 1980's group C Le Mans car.

1. This was the design intention! It worked too, how can you say this does not look familiar....



2. Personally - and not just Ultima folk included in this sentiment - how can it look Dated - the design perfectly achieves what it was set out to do - and is timeless. It looks like an older car - but looking slightly older is the WHOLE BEAUTY of the car!


3. Seeing said evidence - that's probably why a customer would buy the car - therefore saying "it looks old and dated" etc. etc. is missing the point. That's like buying the new Queen "Greatest Hits" album - then getting disappointed they didn't do a "remix" with David Guetta to We are the Champions....

I agree with some of your sentiments, deevlash.
I bought the car for the pleasure of driving probably one of the best sportscars on the market. The styling (of which I'm also none too keen on) is of secondary importance.

Some Ultima owners feel quite strongly about this, but I'm ok with constructive criticism (especially since I never had a hand in designing the car).

the "70's" mustache is neatly sported by my dad Peter!!!!

..so the Supertoadylight Ultima really is "in keeping" with the Porsche!

Seeing as the topic of the Ulitma's design has come up, can I ask why the back of the cockpit is so much lower that the front? Doesn't this restrict the headroom somewhat, for no apparent reason?

picture were your head goes in relations to the seat that you can just make out also taking into account that you rarelly rest your head against the seat.

Guess the point is it doesnt really restrict headroom at all and from a design point it actually gives the impression of the cockpit being larger than it actually is when your inside the car.

aha - we are talking at cross purposes and its my typing that failed me! Its not him in the porsche no - it was a small dig at the fact dad has a 70's style mustache!!! (which hes had for 33 years apparently!)

the nobles rear end is an abomination, whats that curve doing over the rear wheels? It isnt relfected anywhere else in the entire car and thats before we even get to the chav tastic spoiler. I dont even think a lot of ultima GTR owners like the can am! Beauty is in the eye of the beholder though so as long as youre happy with them thats fine. Posting a picture of a person to back up my claims would be totally pointless, they werent designed, unless you're a god botherer.
