It is my intention to get home early today and call for Griff 500 insurance.
No I havent bought yet but Im ensuring I have the finances sorted properly before I make any silly decisions!
Many Thanks,
Adam
PS: the cars Im looking at tend to be 9 years old so I guess Im just out of the classic category.
Incase its needed, Im 30 years young.

try the following dusty.A-1:-08002791920 ,classicline:-01455639000 ,osborne & sons:-02083886000 ,peart assoc:-08702402972 ,direct line:-08452468811 ,sunninghill:-08707878017,and lastly, the cheapest for me by £200!,A manning:-01491578759 .A manning give preferential rates for tvrcc members and those with experience of performance cars,im not sure about the others. p.s. if your not a tvrcc member,i would reccomend you join.apart from the low insurance benefits, its a good club with a good monthly magazine.cheers,mv. edited to say,i got a manning and sunninghill mixed up on my first reply.

It's renewal time Chez Beano - once again Direct line scores (bizarrely) at £506 (even though it's 10% up on last year).
Biggest laugh was £1342!!!!
Try also:
privilege 0845 246 0987
Budget 0800 107 8809
I won't give you the number of the organisation who told me that there isn't a Griffith 500 and I must have a "Griffith 2000 series" !!!!!

If you're looking at 9+ year old Griffiths and only need limited mileage, say 5000 mls, I would give Aon a try as they have allowed me to put a 9+ year old car on the Classic Insurance in the past.
Last year's premium for my '92 Griffith (agreed value £17K) for 5000 mls was just over £300.
Sorry don't have a tele no to hand.

DustyC,
A few points,
Are you going to use it on TVRCC trackadys?
Are you going to modify it?
Mileage?
Mannings insure for TVRCC trackdays and are OK Re. modifications. Remember, any change of parts to non standard could be construed as modification.
I don't understand this limited mileage business, I have 2 cars, the Griffith is used for pleasure only and I've still managed to clock up 20k miles in 10 months, it's a f
g nightmare. It's like having one of those little devil's on your shoulder encouraging you to leave the office/home and make aimless journeys around NSL roads. Only my devil is Titanium Metalic, has 4 wheels and a large appetite for the '98' proof.
Dave.

Q. Are you going to use it on TVRCC trackadys?
A. Yes, I hope to.
Q. Are you going to modify it?
A. Probably not for a while but if things go wrong I will replace them with better parts depending how deep my wallet is at the time!
Q. Mileage?
A. Tricky one but its a second car and Id like as much as possible. Im planning to do a continental driving holiday in it and was hoping to get away with topping the miles up if necessary. Perhaps 7000? Id be like you though and be out in it all the time. Expect there to be an oil crissis shortly after I buy it!

It all depends on age and postcode but I found Norwich Union DIRECT to be MUCH cheaper than all the rest - yep, it surprised me as well. I couldn't believe that a telephone direct insurer like NU would beat the specialists until I gave them a chance. They've covered my 1999 Griff 500 from new for around £320. Over to you!!
You guys are very lucky
. My premium (97 Griff 500, London postcode, parked on the road, no no-claims as third car) is over £1500. Dusty, if that is nearer to your situation, I found that Mannings through the TVRCC were the cheapest by about 5%. Their admin. was OK, not great, but when I had to make quite a substantial accident claim recently, everything worked flawlessly so I'd recommend them.

I'm 29 - when I called the specialists like Mannings and Sunninghill, they either needed a garage (no joy for me, unless I can double my income), or needed more than 30 years on this planet
There was also the small matter of a 14 day ban for enjoying a Noble M12.....
I found my 7-years-current insurer (Privilege) still the best rate. May be worth a call if you don't have private parking.
Also, be realistic about limited mileage policies. These damn TVRs are *incredibly* addictive drives and you'll easily break 5k miles even if it's only a weekend leisure car
Oh yeah - and another top tip, put yer wife / girlfriend / favourite tart on the policy. My girlfriend cuts 100 quid off my yearly policy, even though she's got limited 'fast-car' experience, and the last time she drove the Griff she got it sideways at 95 mph on the M25
