hi everyone, looks like i have sold my disco and am now looking out for an rs6 avant, am looking at getting and early one up to 80k in miles but lower the better.

i know about the drc issues and it would seem that cambelt is a big job so along with this i wondered what you knowledgeable people thought that i should be looking for ......how often should be the cambelt be changed?

is the ski hatch something that is standard as this is a must have for me

if anyone know of any ones that might be for sale and that would fit the bill

any info gratefully received!

if i cant find anything that fits the bill is there another estate that has the ski hatch....?

best

Cam belt will be every 40,000 miles.

Ski hatch unlikely to be standard.

Have a look over on rs246.com or audisrs.com

Have a quick read through all the recent threads on here, been covered in detail quite a few times, in short:

DRC
Gearbox
Brakes
Tyres
Cambelt

Buy a loved car and bear in mind that they are expensive to maintain correctly smile

Spectacularly so; my wife's RS6 is the most expensive car to run I've ever owned - & thats up against some stonkingly stiff opposition.

yup, get a good warranty. Mine was on paper probably the best car I have ever owned and almost certainly the fastest, but boy oh boy, circa £20k warranty claims in 2 years would have broken the bank.

The buyer of mine got an almost mint and totally sorted car with 60k miles for £16000 (a year ago).

Look hard for a good one. As said above rs246 a good source of info on them.

Oh, and the DMS tip-gearbox upgrade is an absolute must have IMHO.

i am beginning to think that this could be a mistake.......? i have a 993 and the disco was not cheap to service at £500 a go, but both are ultra reliable......maybe i should just stick with them! lol

If you are stretching yourself to get one then it could be a bad idea, personally I would allow at least an extra £2k-£3k for extras/maintenance after the purchase price for one of these to sort out anything that needs doing. If you dont need to spend it then its a bonus.

slight diversion, the title says RS.... avant
Have you considered an S6 V10 avant or a B7 RS4 avant?
There is a thread a little lower down on the V10.

That's a very fair comment actually - ditto annual maintenance. Allow yourself a couple of K then if nothing goes wrong it's a bonus.

Even little jobs on RS6s are expensive unfortunately; think of it as a heavier 911 turbo in terms of general expenses.

rs4 is too small and for the money that i have to spend i dont think that i could get one, do they have the ski hatch options? i might be better off looking for a 2.7 diesel, plenty of go and more reliable?

B7 RS4 avant has a ski hatch, but the car's appreciably smaller than an RS6.

does anyone know what sort of length it will take so it doesn't encroach on the front seats etc, my skis are 181 in length....andy

From memory, it's a central ski hatch so (in theory) it shouldn't encroach on the front seats although the skis might compromise access to the handbrake. I've only throughloaded a standard lamp base in mine so I'll defer to an RS4 owning skier...

Conveniently enough I've one of each in front of me - RS4 is 6' before encroaching on gear lever (but might encroach on elbow room a bit), you've got about 6/7 inches more in an RS6.

Ski hatches are also standard on the B5 RS4 as well.

I've got a ski hatch with the bag etc on my S5, so I would have thought either S/RS 4 and 6 in either avant or saloon would accomodate it without touching the front seats; just got to find one with the right option.
