ahh sorry

My definition PUB CAR:

A car you can take anywhere and not worry about it, leave it in any pub car park or outside a friends house on the road.

(I do not drink and drive btw)

A hack
A banger
A SHED

Personally I'd go for a hardtop for the risk of vandalism with a car left somewhere like a pub or station car park overnight. Only because the obvious mindless thing to do to a convertible is the one that leaves you soaking wet if you have to drive it in the rain.

Course, you can still get a hardtop for an MX-5, although I'm not sure it'd stay within the total budget...

My shout would be an E34. Six cylinder ones are plentiful as the day is long at that price. Plus those old bruisers look, well, kind of right slung across a pub car park. :-)

Escort TDI (My friend in Bristol had one as a pub car... so I had to mention it)

It has to be white with wheel trims, rusty arches, etc.

I would love a carburettor model, but out of my price i think.

We've had such a car in the family for a while. I only need to drive a car to the station if I'm late or it's raining so we've had two "pub cars"

The 1.1 Fiesta and the 1.0 Metro Rio.

We've spent less, about £350 for both of them combined however they both have the key feature that none of the cars above have; piss cheap running costs. Head gasket for a Fezza? £12 and 45 minutes to fit. Tyres for the Metro, that'll be £56 + fitting. All round. This is the key to a pub/station/disposable car.

The key is working out exactly what you're after. Interesting often equels big running costs, there are rare cars that are cheap to run, however the asking price is usually above £1k

Surley a Jag XJ6/XJS is the archetypal pub car? Landlords of the 80s loved 'em!

and a Cerb

2 live in the car park and cost under £1k and one gets locked away and cost slightly more than £1k.

Indeed. That Escort has twelve hundred quid in it's windscreen. Shame to leave a characterful car like the TVR outside but as they are defunct I guess the values gone.

You may well slag off my car, at least I've joined a car site and listed what I own, you I notice have nothing listed in your profile.

The Escort cost a lot less than that, image downloaded from Google.

TVR maybe finished but I don't think it is really going to hurt the residuals.

tongue out

Autotrader have loads of V6 Mondeos for <£1k. You can't get much more anonymous than a Mondeo, and in V6 guise they go like stonk, with the handling to match.
