The edition of Family Fortunes, broadcast on Saturday 21 November had a big mistake (no, not Vernon Kay...well, alright, maybe).

100 people surveyed were asked what animals would you find at the North Pole. One of the contestants answered "Penguins" and lo and behold 5 of those surveyed came up with that answer.

teacherbangheadshoutPENGUINS LIVE AT THE SOUTH POLE...NOT THE censored NORTH! For a penguin to live at the North Pole, it would have to be a very lost penguin indeed. How did it get to the North Pole? Faulty sat nav perhaps?

5% of this country's people are thick? Must be more than that.

I remember an old celebrity FF and Fluella Benjamin was asked, "we asked 100 people to name something you'd expect to see at a nudist beach.."

She gaffed, "ooh, that's a hard one".

Or the one where the guy answered every question with "Turkey"!

Seriously, though, I had friends who were on a Les Dennis hosted show - and he was apprently an ignorant little turd. Would smile when the cameras were on, be all nicey nicey, then as soon as cameras went off, he just scowled and threw his toys out of the pram.

Friendslost when he incorrectly asked a question on the final round - he asked to name a favourite soap - people answered Lifeboy, Pears, etc His script said "soap opera" and the director stopped the prog. He refused to redo the final and stormed out in a huff. So friends got chuff all.

It is but the others gave Santa as the answer.

It's not really a mistake by the show though is it. 5 of 100 gave that answer, no where in the rules does it say the answer has to be correct!

Yes, I realise that. FF is one way to measure the nation's intelligence and I'm surprised that the numbers were massaged down to single figures when they should, imo, have been much higher (depending on which shopping centres the 'surveys' were conducted at).

Sorry Glassman, my comment about it not being a 'mistake' was aimed towards the OP/general discussion not you.

I agree though I would have thought the percentage of people that made the mistake would be higher.

I can't begin to imagine what some answers would be if the so called survery were conducted in Barnsley... on a Monday morning.
