Very cheap Cerbera
Discussion
Now this is cheap... http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/1364151.htm
I would love to know why? and why there is no in depth detail about the car. Does anyone recognise the car? It could be a little gem like the SP6 that went for £6.5K.
Cheers

So was this;

But then it might have been the colour combination?
Been looking at Cerbera's recently as my brother fancies one, although he's half tempted by a project, seen ARDA's post and read with interest, but don't really fancy a Cat D. They can be picked up for peanuts but then its the unknown with the engine and electrics that bothers me. But then, this time of year, time is on your side if you know a good sparky who likes to dabble with wiring looms i guess??

That S6 is a lovely colour and was an absolute bargain. http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1247985.htm

I am not sure ARDAs car will be a cheap way into Cerb ownership. the cost of the car plus all the work will not end up cheap from what I can see.
I havent seen many 'cheap' CAT D's.
Engine wise, whats the fundamental difference between a 4.0, a 4.2 and the 4.5 then? I know they need to be driven and by christ they will, providing you do your due diligence before you buy, what are major pit falls for each engine then?
I was always told the 4.5 was the better one blah blah, but then its horses for courses as someone else told me they had a 4.2 AJP and it was a dream to own, but i've heard contradicting stories. Having owned a 4.0 Griff that never gave me any trouble, the AJP's were always a grey area for me, as i've never really lived with one.

the 4.0 is a speed 6 as per tuscans etc easier to live with day to day as long as its a good one which a lot of the early ones weren't generally (lots of stuff about them on here)I was always told the 4.5 was the better one blah blah, but then its horses for courses as someone else told me they had a 4.2 AJP and it was a dream to own, but i've heard contradicting stories. 4.2 is the AJP V8. cracking engine and completely different animal to rover based unit in your griff. Doesn't even sounds like it as its a flat plane crank. When the rover runs out of steam and needs another gear the AJP is still in the sweet spot and heading for the horizon at an alarming rate.
4.5 is the AJP V8. again and is basically the same as the 4.2 but has different intakes amongst other things.
the 4.2 and 4.5 engines are regarded as pretty robust. Some very early 4.2 had duff cranks ( should all be gone by now). Snapped cams have been known but not common.
4.2 is said to have limited tuning potential but tend to be running close to stated HP out the box
4.5 responds to intake mods and mapping and can put out 400+ HP but tend to start further away from out the box HP
standard 4.5 has the legs on a 4.2 but its generally once you are into the non legal zone that the difference shows. 4.2 are said to have a crisper throttle response than 4.5. As standard not that big a difference though
Coming from a rover based unit to a V8 cerb is like night and day (I had a chim 400) My 4.2 was fine around town for me. It was a little awkward at 30 and low revs but never really bothered me. Ive had a speed6 and the t350 with the 3.6RR was more civilised round town but didn't have the raw grunt of the Cerb when provoked. I still smile when I think of the Cerb (sold it 3 years ago) and thats even though it snapped a timing chain and gave my wallet a good kicking generally. You need to drive one though.
Hope that helps
