Hi Guys,

Just wondering if anyone else is still waiting for the 'new' Sky EPG to download to their box.

Have had an HD box since 2008 and I got the letter informing me it was 'coming soon' at the beginning of the year, but still haven't got it - and I had a replacement HD box a few months ago too.

When I followed up with Sky mid-year they said sit tight it's coming, but couldn't say when.

To be honest, not overly bothered about it due to the mixed reviews, but wondering if there are other 'behind the scenes' update I might be missing too.

If you have just had a new box I think it's likely to be a Samsung one, the new EPG is rolling out to the sammys at the moment...I had mine done about 2 weeks ago. Older boxes were rolled out at about March/April time from what I have read.

Had it on our current* and previous boxes for at least 4 months.

Massive improvement over the old one both in speed and functionality - the PiP on variuos channel nev screens is a nice touch as is the way a series of programs only takes one entry in the list of recoreded progs (shown as a stack).

  • One box replaced due to a recall and this one will be going back soon as the signal keeps breaking up. Already had a tech out to it and it's not a dish/cable problem, apparently all boxes they give out are refurbs and they have to justify giving out new boxes. Issue was temporarily fixed by resetting the firmware - back to the original planner which was updated within a few days.
Much as I like the Sky package their hardware is st.

I got the update about two weeks ago on my Samsung box.

Initially I was quite happy with it but now it's soooooo sllllooooowwww.

You bring up the TV guide then press green to go to the planner and it takes about 5 seconds for it to do anything. You need to mark everything recorded as a Keep so that you don't delete stuff by accident.

We've had it on our original box for ages, but friends with a newer box are still on the old planner. But then again they never turn their's off (into standby) at night so I doubt it'll ever download the update hehe

No you don't have to turn the box to standby. The updates are being rolled out at the moment by box type.

Hi all.
For those of you that have got the new EPG, I can tell you that a new firmware version will be rolling out which speeds things up no end (not sure of the roll out date, though). I work for Sky and us staff members have been trialling a new firmware version for a little while now to iron out any bugs and the new one is much much better and quicker. The biggest complaint of the present customer version of the new EPG was the slow speed.
For those with the old EPG, then the new one does take a bit of getting used to, but as noted in this thread, once mastered is much more user friendly - with the best bit being able to scan through later programmes and other channels and use the "i" button for info on later stuff whilst still watching a channel and the "series link" feature is now more user friendly. Also, the PIP on the guide is useful, too

Cheers, Jon

Mine got updated last week. Takes a little while to get used to it, and if you have a small screen, the writing is difficult to read. But on big screen, it's really good - and I like the ability to keep watching the TV prog while I look up Anytime / Planner etc.

The filing system of recorded progs is also much better.

Overall, I'd say Sky have done something right............. for once!

Now, if only they could answer calls a bit quicker..............

You'll be able to tell - believe me!

The electronic programme guide looks completely different, and introduced a picture-within-picture so you can carry on watching what is on TV while you browse the guide.

I've had HD for a few months now but it wasn't until 5-6 weeks ago that the new EPG popped up. I had a letter and an e-mail to say it was coming and then a few days later it upgraded itself overnight.
