Read the article!

"The toilets use high-speed vacuum pipes to take waste at up to 110kph (68mph) into a holding tank, which is then emptied between flights."

I recently read a tale from a guy who empties the tanks and he'd been unfortunate enough to be standing under the pipe when the coupling failed. Would have fancied car sharing with him on the way home that day !

we get our juniors to empty the bogs on our aircraft.....not a nice jobs because if you don't open the valves in the correct order, you can get a bit of 'blow back'. hehe

'blow back' now there's a phrase that you never want to experience.

I heard a tale from a mate who was a pilot, that when they extended the 747 to the 747-300 or 400 model they used to get blockages in the pipework.

So the engineers turned up the vacuum a bit. Which resulted in "things" flying along the pipes at much higher speeds. These then flew across the tank and impacted on the opposite side of the tanks, resulting in dents appearing in the tanks and an audible bang in the cabin above the tanks!

Is it considered bad form to have a threepenny bit in an aircraft bog?

Sort out your rhyming slang, old chap - It's "Tom Tit", or "Pony".

"Thrupny Bits" refer to ladies jumper-bumps.

I've often referred to dihihaarorrooeeaaoehah as 'the two bob bits' if that helps
