Assuming that man is responsible for climate change, then it is largely a pointless exercise to fight it... we're multiplying at such a ridiculous rate that any attempts to reduce our effect will be counteracted by some 14 year old chav popping her 6th baby.

1801 10.5 million
1901 38.2 million
1950 50.1 million
2000 58.8 million
2008 61.3 million

The prediction for the future population growth would show that in 2050 there will be 77.2 million UK citizens. Although this figure rises by quite a bit each year.

More people = more taxes but really more consumption. Perhaps countries that are not self sufficient for food (the UK I believe is not) should not take in asylum seekers (most of them bogus!!), economic migrants etc for maybe civil unrest is ultimately likely in these countries.
