The company I work for is in administration and last Friday I was told that my shop would close on the 16 December - if it shut earlier due to no stock then I'd be paid ( as manager) up to the 16th but my part-time staff wouldn't. The redundancy package will have to be funded by the government, and presumably holiday pay accrued.
We haven't received written notice of redundancy ( just over the telephone, although widely reported in the press, and is genuine). Does anyone know if the 4 weeks notice ( that we should be getting, but aren't) is taken from a verbal communication...or should it be from the written notification, when we get it? Since it's likely that we'll probably close next week I'd like to be able to give some helpful advice to my staff.

I had hoped for an answer...but I know thisn't a proper site for that sort of info.

As an update we had the administrators in earlier and they were brutal.I've never known anyone to be treated so rudely ..doubt if they have a customer service form to fill in.

No excuse for rudeness in business - ever.

Since you don't appear to be being paid, I'd tell 'em to "do one"!

Thanks tonker for the advice re the hours situation, wouldn't have thought of that. One of them is working in excess of their contracted hours and that should protect her hopefully.
I'm already treating them to a slap-up meal and drinking session when we've closed for good smile

When you claim for unpaid notice and holiday, I'd claim from 16th December. You'll get the forms from the administrator, and when they are returned, will be paid in a month or two.
