Hi,
I’m looking to start a collection of 1:18 scale dicast race cars, I’ve started the collection with this Mininchamps Porsche 917 (the general theme for my collection).

Are there any other manufactures I should look at? AUTOart have some great cars, but are they worth the extra cash?
Thanks in advance.

Autoart you have already got, Minichamps do some interesting stuff, Sun Star do some great cheap rally cars, Solido have some nice Le Mans Astons. Kyosho also do some nice rally cars, but are a bit more expensive than Sun Star; they have Lancia 037s, Stratos, Fiat 131 Abarths, all very nice. At the very top end of the scale there is CMC and Exoto, both of which do some superbly detailed cars. CMC has lots of old Mercedes racers, Exoto has a mix of 70s and 80s F1 cars, along with lots of Corvettes, Chapparals and Sauber Mercedes C9s.
Ebay is rubbish for bargains now; I use www.modelissimo.de for a lot of my purchases now...shipping is expensive though
If you wanted something a bit special, Amalgam do some 1/8th scale cars, both F1 and tin top, but at a price...normally in the region of £2.5k upwards!!
HTH!

Is this a Can-Am or Le-mans car?
Interserie Championship, which was (still going actually) sort of like the European version of Can-Am.The driver of the 1973 car pictured is a bit more interesting, Leo Kinnunen, the first Finn in F1.

About 25 years ago I started collecting 1:18 diecast Porsches. It started to get out of hand and now I only collect 1:18 diecast RACING Porsche.I’m looking to start a collection of 1:18 scale dicast race cars, I’ve started the collection with this Mininchamps Porsche 917 (the general theme for my collection).

Exoto have a fantastic range of 934's and 935's along with the 917 Can Am racers and the early 910's. I also find that both AUTOART and MINICHAMPS have agood selection. Have a look at the recent releases from `Truescale Minatures` 1:18 935's.
Have bought these from various shows such as AUTOSPORT show at the NEC, even Goodwood F.O.S and Revival meetings. If you go to any of these shows and buy two or three cars you can normally do some serious haggling.
However the bulk of the collection has come via on-line stores especially the ones in the USA. Sportscraft cars is quite good and they often have stock before UK suppliers such as Diecast Legends.
Use a search engine such as Google and you'll find loads of sites. Worth exploring the home site for each of the various manufactureres as well.
Good luck. Hope you've got lots of display space and a fat wallet!
