Just acquired one of these to go with my rebuilt SDI lump (which came to me without one) It has the seperate flat ballast, Lucas 9RU. The coil fitted to the car (a kit, replica Ford Model 'A' which currently has an old P6 engine fitted, shortly to be hauled out) is a standard 9V and there is a standard cubic ballast fitted, wired up as per normal including the jumper 12V lead from the starter solenoid. I am either going to try the dizzy with its own ballast with this coil or do away with the 9RU ballast and use a new coil I have in my spares drawer (cannot state the make as I am at work) but it is a 'performance' 12V coil, so may be OK. If it is not suitable for electronic ignition, will it ultimately fail or worse, fry the dizzy innards? I will post the full coil details when I am home - just needed an opinion while bored at work....

I would go with the 12v coil.

Thanks Sreve, but I have now seen that the coil is an Aldon 'Flamethrower' and the sticker on it says 3 ohm. According to Aldon's website this is not the one for 8-cyl engines, so I may get an MS2 coil which I think is the one to go for with the Opus ignition.
