What did you do with your summers at uni?

What was it doing and would you recommend it?

I'm trying to sort things out now so that I can earn a bit of money over the summer!

Van driver.

Was great, stress free, ok money and the boss was nice.

Managed to choose my deliveries to coincide with where uni friends lived so met for lunch and had a catch up.

Work to earn money to pay for the rest of the year is my aim.

I will be doing some contract work. Inbetween that, building my house.

Worked at Castle Head Field Centre, South Lakes as an instructor, teaching kids aged 8-16 how to rock climb and mountain navigate (mainly). No real pay (enough for a few of pints at the end of the week) but board and lodgings provided, so no big costs either. Great fun and great experience - employers seemed very interested in it in interviews.

I did lots of building jobs in the day (labouring) and bar work at night. Loved it.

Worked as a hod carrier - reasonably stress free - the fittest I've ever been and cash at the end of the week. Most of the time too tired to spend it!

What got on my goat was going back to Uni at the start of a new year with a couple of grand in my bank thus not really having to ask myself if I could afford that 6th pint was the reaction from a lot of people. Their perception was that my parents were minted and I was getting subbed by them! When I asked what they did - island hopping in Greece!

worked as a labourer on a supermarket build - well paid, hassle free.

worked on duty free at the airport, silver served on GNER trains, worked for the commonwealth games, worked in a bookies etc.

summer jobs are easy to come buy and generally fun. i do wish i'd tried to get some relevant work experience though, which i'd advise given the current jobs situation.

I did summer schools at the uni and worked as a dogsbody/crowd supervisor at music festivals and sports events. Fantastic amounts of beer, driving up and down the country every week and I even had some money saved at the end of the summer! I also got paid to go to Glastonbury which was nice

that was about the size of it.

Didn't know anything about it until he got a call the next day saying not to come into work or answer the door if the press turned up!

Yes, I took a vocational course in remedial common knowledge.

I spent each summer working in a bit of the company that sponsered me through my electronics degree.

First summer in production, boring and learnt a little

Second summer in commercial, marketing was ok, accounts was very very boring, learnt that I never wanted to work in accounts again

Third summer was in the design department, learnt quite a lot, still working electronic design now.

Lots of minimum wage type stuff including:

Kitchen porter
Hotel cleaner
Canteen Dishwasher
Warehouse box stacker
Laundry worker

One of my hall mates went to America via BunaCamp.

Another started out as a cleaner but found out how much her agency were making out of her and set herself up as a cleaning agency employing just herself. She spent half the Summer working and the rest travelling across India.
