coolant temperature sensor

Evening chaps,

Ive got a strange problem with my coolant temp sensor...when its plugged in temp gauge doesnt work...unplug it, gauge works and fans run constantly.

had wiring checked and its fine, changed the sensor twice to no avail!

auto electrician has drawn a blank so if any one on here can help it would be a massive help

Sounds like screw has worked it's way through the wire, buzz it out to earth and see what you get.

sorry forgot to mention am just a northern monkey! where might i find the screw?and would i be able to see if its worked its way through?

I think Adrian is suggesting that somewhere along the loom a screw has worked its way into the temperature sender wire and is earthing it constantly. If you do a continuity test on the sender wire and it's earthed then you'll get a result on the meter, usually a buzz.


I maybe wrong though, or pissed, or both!!

btw coolant temp sensor part no;4529853 from ford they've changed it from 4093827

not sure if this needs to go on the wiki and i wouldnt know how any way!
